Kindersley Court hears sexual assault sentencing, other local cases

Kindersley Provincial Court heard several cases on Aug. 12.

Brandon Wasylenchuk pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. Due to the sensitive nature of the charge, no facts were read aloud in court. The Crown and defence presented a joint sentencing submission, which the judge accepted.

Severe storms, tornado risk target West Central Saskatchewan Wednesday

An active weather pattern is setting up across much of Alberta and Saskatchewan on Wednesday, with forecasters warning of severe thunderstorms, large hail and the potential for one or two tornadoes in parts of both provinces.

Environment Canada says a low-pressure system developing in the Alberta foothills on Wednesday morning will track east into west-central Saskatchewan by late afternoon. A warm front will stretch from the Battlefords region north of Saskatoon into southeastern Saskatchewan, while a cold front lingers across south-central Alberta.

McGrath's "dream come true" continues with 2025 Mental Health Classic

A busy summer has finally settled down for Saskatoon resident, and Kindersley native D Jay McGrath following the 2025 Mental Health Classic 3v3 hockey tournament in Saskatoon.

McGrath started the tournament a few years back in his hometown of Kindersley with tons of help behind him. The former Jr. Klippers captain has made a name for himself thanks to his journey with mental health, and is so happy to see where it has taken him. 

"I think it's more of a dream come true kind of thing for me," said McGrath.

Wilkie RCMP investigate break-ins and stolen trailer

RCMP in Wilkie say they are investigating several property-related offences reported between Aug. 5 and Aug. 11, including a stolen trailer and break-ins at two farm shops.

Police say an attempted traffic stop led to a suspect fleeing from officers. In a separate incident, a 40-year-old Wilkie man was charged with possession of property obtained by crime and operating while prohibited after members located stolen property in a vehicle.

Scary rabbits invade the internet

You may have seen some haunting photos online of bunny rabbits from Colorado.
Although they can look terrifying — with what seem like tentacles growing from their faces — the condition is actually neither especially dangerous nor very common.

One study examined 1,395 cottontail rabbit specimens and identified 20 rabbits showing signs consistent with the virus.

Air Canada to begin cancelling flights ahead of possible work stoppage on Saturday

Air Canada says it will begin a gradual suspension of flights to allow an orderly shutdown as it faces a potential work stoppage by its flight attendants on Saturday.

The airline says the first flights will be cancelled Thursday, with more on Friday and a complete cessation of flying by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge by the weekend.

Air Canada Express flights operated by Jazz and PAL Airlines will continue to operate as normal. 

Air Canada says customers whose flights are cancelled will be notified and they will be eligible for a full refund.

Berries record setting season halted by Red Sox

A record setting regular season ended in playoff disappointment on Tuesday night for the Saskatoon Berries.  A 6-2 loss to the Regina Red Sox in the Western Canadian Baseball League's East Division final officially put Saskatoon's season to an end, as the Berries were unable to replicate their Round 1 performance against Moose Jaw where they rebounded from a series opening loss to advance to the next round.
