Big Six Hockey League ready for final action of January with weekend games
This weekend the Big Six hockey league will be back in action with a good few teams looking to get their final points of January.
Tonight the Carnduff Red Devils head to Moosomin to face the Rangers, a battle between two teams in the top half of the standings.
Southeast College opens Reconciliation Education Centre in Weyburn
Southeast College announced the opening of its Reconciliation Education Centre in Weyburn earlier this week. The new space is designed for students, staff and the community to gather and learn about Indigenous culture, teachings, and ways of knowing and being.
Located on the main floor of the Weyburn campus in Room 134, the centre features a spacious environment with large windows that bring nature into the space. Live-edged tables serve as hubs for gatherings and projects.

Estevan to be hit by blowing snow with above-seasonal temperatures after the weekend
The southeast will see some heavy winds and blowing snow today, but an update from Environment Canada has pushed that back from this morning.
The original forecast had a similar system as what was seen on Wednesday morning, with visibility dropping and hampering movement on highways.
Now that's expected to hit later in the day, says Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Fulton.

Joly off to Washington to talk tariffs with Rubio as Trump floats 5% target for NATO
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly will press Canada's case against damaging tariffs with the new U.S. secretary of state in Washington next week, after Trump repeated a demand Thursday for allies to vastly increase their military spending.
Trump is threatening to impose 25 per cent across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada starting on Feb. 1. Joly said things are still in flux because Trump hasn't confirmed his new commerce secretary.
"There will be lots of rhetoric," Joly told reporters on Parliament Hill on Thursday.
Who's in and who's out of the Liberal leadership race
The federal Liberals are running their first leadership race in more than a decade to replace the departing Justin Trudeau.
Candidates had to declare by 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 23 with a $50,000 deposit towards a $350,000 fee to enter the race. The winner will be named on March 9.

Thankfully, some choice snow and rain events in late Winter and into Spring helped shape optimism for the growing year.
Redvers secures $63,542 SGI grant for school zone safety upgrades
The town of Redvers is enhancing pedestrian safety through a school zone safety project funded by a $63,542 grant from SGI. This project builds on earlier initiatives aimed at protecting children and pedestrians, including the installation of a crosswalk along the highway that helps students safely access local businesses during lunchtime.

Karina Gould submits paperwork to enter Liberal leadership race on deadline day
Liberal leadership contender Karina Gould submitted her official paperwork to enter the race to replace Justin Trudeau today.
Gould said outside party headquarters in Ottawa that her party lost touch with Canadians at the end of the pandemic and needs to get better at listening.
Gould briefly touched on some of her policy ideas and said she thinks the party did not get the capital gains tax increase right.
Candidates only have until 5 p.m. EST today to declare they will run — although the party can take up to ten days to confirm them as candidates.
