Burrowing Owls pop back up in farmers' fields following winter retreat
With plants sprouting from the ground and farmers confidently finished with seeding, tractors in the field might find some new friends popping up in their farmland this summer. Burrowing owls can be found in the Saskatchewan prairies during the summer, having returned from their trip down south over the winter.
They're now moving into their namesake burrows in prairie meadows, grasslands, and even farmers' fields.
Saskatchewan Day of Caring
Saskatchewan Day Of Caring For Wildfire Evacuees on Thursday, June 12, is a collaborative effort that will see radio stations across Saskatchewan dedicating airtime throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for those impacted by the 2025 Saskatchewan wildfires.
Funds raised during the Radiothon will go directly to the Canadian Red Cross 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires Appeal.

We could be in for a long, hot, dry summer
The Weather Network's Summer Forecast is calling for above-normal temperatures for the Prairies.
The southern half of the provinces will experience well-above-normal temperatures due to a heat dome in the U.S.
A heat dome occurs when a high-pressure system traps hot air over a region, causing prolonged periods of extreme heat.
Meteorologist Rhythm Reet says this means we could see excessive heat for a longer period and more frequent heat waves; it also influences where the storm track will be setting up.
‘Reach for the stars’ sets the tone for Drewitz School of Dance recital
The Drewitz School of Dance recently held its annual recital, marking the end of another season of dedication and performance. Owner, director and teacher Lori Gay Drewitz-Gallaway shared insights about the event and the evolution of the dance school over the years.
Despite concerns over smoky weather during recital weekend, the event exceeded expectations. "We had over 1,200 people in the audience, and the dancers did exceptional," Drewitz-Gallaway said. "Considering the smoke and everything, it was still the highlight of their year."
Estevan ready to assist if called on to help wildfire evacuees
People evacuating from northern Saskatchewan have been finding shelter in a number of communities as the wildfires continue to rage, and Estevan says it's ready to help when needed. So far, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) says around 15,000 people have had to evacuate, settling into other communities while firefighters work to keep their homes safe.
Here in Estevan, we have yet to receive any of these evacuees, but EMO Coordinator Helen Fornwald says they're ready to receive them if necessary.
Wellness committee website offers connections and resources for locals
The Estevan Community Wellness Committee is showing off their new website, which they hope will help keep people informed about helpful parts of the community. The committee was first formed back in 2023, and since then, has grown to prioritize four areas for the community: mental wellness, substance abuse and addictions, education and employment, and victimization.
Rebecca Foord, a member of the committee, talks about what they hope to accomplish with their new website.
Federal and provincial governments coming together to raise funds for wildfire support
In a new release from the federal and provincial governments, money is immediately headed to the Canadian Red Cross to provide money to help with ongoing forest fires in Canada's northern areas.
The federal government is providing that money for both Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the federal government matching every dollar donated to the Red Cross to support wildfire relief.
