1946 – 2025
Garry Marklinger, late of Swift Current and formerly of Estevan, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK at the age of 79 years.
Garry is survived by his two children, Wendy and Steve (Tanya Schiestel); grandchildren, Jenny Scott Young, Kohl Marklinger; siblings: Mary Jane Marklinger-Ryckman (partner Frank Young), Linda (Jim) Choquette, and Wayne (Nancy) Marklinger; brother-in-law Les Geisel; Uncle “Bud” Richard Marklinger, as well as many family and friends.

Highway work causing delays south of Swift Current
Traffic is being restricted to a single lane from Highway Four to Hodgeville.
Crews are currently working on Highway 363, with a pilot vehicle guiding travellers around the work.
Motorists will need to slow down and be prepared to stop.

Tail Light Tuesday starts revving up for The Big One
Things were a little crammed at Tail Light Tuesday.
The Living Sky Casino was refurbishing most of their western parking lot, forcing the weekly car show to share their space with regular casino goers.
It didn't stop the Rogue Cruisers from turning up in force for their Tuesday night hangout, with close to 80 vehicles coming and going throughout the evening.
Dustin Vipond, co-founding member of the Rogue Cruisers, was blown away that even in such cramped conditions, there was still room for new additions to their retinue.

A paving project on the Trans-Canada Highway is ending today, if everything goes according to plan.
For eight days, drivers have had to experience anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes of delays as crews have been micro-resurfacing the westbound lanes near Maple Creek and Piapot.

Unemployment remains low but labour force shrinks in our region
The Swift Current/Moose Jaw region continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Canada.
The region's seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate sat at 2.4% in August.
It's another massive drop from 5.4% in August 2024.
That unemployment rate is 1.1% lower than any other community in the country.
There were 53,200 employed in Swift Current/Moose Jaw last month.
That's of 1200 jobs year-over-year.
The local labour force shrank from 55,100 in August 2024 to 54,500 last month.
Networking event to foster business connection in Swift Current
A free event geared towards southwest entrepreneurs and small business owners will be hosted by Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK) this week at a business in downtown Swift Current.
The Rural WESK Connect event is open to everyone, not only women, and is set to take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at Farmer's Daughter Homestead.
SaskPower advises of brief outage in the southwest
A handful of southwest residents have been notified of a planned power outage set to take place near the Town of Shaunavon.
According to SaskPower, rural customers located southeast of Shaunavon can expect to experience the outage from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10.
