Mom loved getting everyone together for a backyard BBQ and pool party so join us in one last gathering to celebrate her. Come in your favourite sun dresses and summer Attire! Bring swimsuits, towels and a blanket. 

We will share stories, hugs and I’m sure a few tears but like mom would say we will celebrate her together.

Increasing flows expected in South Saskatchewan River

Watch for increased flows on the South Saskatchewan River this weekend.

The Water Security Agency is advising the flow will increase between the Alberta border and Lake Diefenbaker due to significant rainfall in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan.

"In preparation for this rainfall," the WSA said in a release. "Alberta began increasing reservoir releases this past week to make room for storage in its reservoirs in the impacted area."

The family of John Rittinger is saddened to announce his peaceful passing on June 14, 2025, at The Meadows in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

John was born on January 11, 1930, in Eastend, Saskatchewan, the eldest of four children born to Jim and Margaret Rittinger.

Elizabeth “Beth” Logan Petersen, nee Bertram, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones in Cabri, Saskatchewan on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Born in Milden, Saskatchewan on March 3, 1944, youngest of 5 girls to Beverly & Betty Bertram of Milden, Saskatchewan. Beth went on to Beauty School in Saskatoon and then moved to Cabri to work, it was in Cabri that she met Robert “Bob” Vernon Petersen (Buntrock) and they married October 24, 1964.

Young players pushing for spots after Colts football spring camp

A lot of turnover, but some impressive new faces at the Swift Current Comp. Colts football spring camp.

"Really, really athletic," said Colts Offensive Coordinator Marcus Kourie. "We've got to come a long ways football IQ-wise, but athletic. We have a lot of athletes that if you put the ball in their hands they're going to do something really, really special."

Some major changes on the offensive side of the ball include Nate Siemens potentially taking over at quarterback.

Hot Dog Day feeds hundreds!

It was another successful Hot Dog Day for Golden West Broadcasting.

We invited the southwest to the Innovation Centre in Swift Current for free hot dogs.

"It went really well," said Swift Current Golden West and Homefield General Manager Morgan Butler. "The weather held up for us. We had lots of people out and served almost 800 hot dogs."

The day has become an annual "thank you" to the people who make our job possible. 

Coyote Car Club Car Show has a howling good time

Hodgeville was overloaded and bustling as over 100 cars took over the town.

The annual Coyote Club Car Show had its second edition with no shortage of support. A total of 104 cars came to the town on Thursday, showing everything off; from classic convertibles to John Deere tractors. 

Marlon Haubrich, president of the Coyote Car Club, was thrilled to see so many people come out, especially considering the weather was stunning for such an occasion. 

"We were hoping to get a few more cars than last year," said Haubrich. "We actually almost doubled it!"

Banff National Park rockfall victim identified as retired university educator

One of the two people killed in a rockfall in Banff National Park has been identified as 70-year-old Jutta Hinrichs of Calgary.

The University of Alberta, in a statement, says Hinrichs was an educator in the department of occupational therapy in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. 

She retired last summer.

Her body was found shortly after a slab of mountain suddenly gave way Thursday afternoon, collapsing on hikers at a popular trail near Bow Glacier Falls, about 200 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

Local photographer captures transforming tornado

Saskatchewan saw a tornado touch down in the southwest yesterday, but a local southwest photographer was there to capture the moment. 

Craig Hilts, owner and photographer for Prairie Fire Photography, was on his way back from a tour of Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma when he ran into the twister. 

It touched down near Frobisher, with hilts witnessing the funnel cloud touch down and transform a number of times. Hilts had his eye on the forecast and spotted the system before it finished forming.

Warrant issued for Donny Gurney after escaping police

Police are looking for a Nekaneet First Nation man after a pursuit in the Swift Current area yesterday.

Swift Current Rural RCMP have a warrant out for the arrest of 28-year-old Donny Gurney on charges including flight from police and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

The incident started with a report of a stolen 2005 F350 in the RM of Swift Current at 8:00 AM on Thursday morning.
