Raising sweat to help our Vets on Wednesday

Paying tribute to our veterans by raising a sweat is happening this Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The 6th annual free Sweat for a Vet boot camp takes place at the SLS Centre's recently upgraded indoor court starting at 9:15 a.m., following by the return of the military march at 10:30 a.m.

For the first time, it's a fundraiser for the Wayfinders Wellness Society to assist them in continuing to provide free services for veterans and first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Update: Collision on Stoney Trail causing delays for Airdrie commuters

A motor vehicle collision on Stoney Trail, westbound near Badlands Trail, has been cleared.

Road conditions in and around Airdrie have deteriorated as wet snow accumulates on area highways, and there are reports of vehicles in ditches on backroads. 

A new home for Olds: Administrative staff to relocate in 2025

The Town of Olds has announced the sale of its current administrative office building to Westview Co-op, a decision formalized at the council meeting last Friday.  

The upcoming move is set for spring 2025, when the Town’s administrative staff will be relocated to the Town Operations Centre at 3501-70 Avenue on the northwest side of town. This transition is expected to enhance the Town’s operational efficiency and support long-term growth while benefiting local businesses. 

Have a parking ticket? Pay it with a toy!

Motorists in Red Deer can now pay their parking ticket with a toy.

The City of Red Deer’s annual Toys for Tickets campaign has returned to support the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

Throughout November, anyone who receives a parking ticket issued by the City of Red Deer can pay the fine by donating a new, unwrapped toy equal to or exceeding the amount of the ticket. 

In early December, all toy donations collected through the program will be delivered to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau for distribution to local families.

Lacombe welding students create heartfelt monument for Blackfalds

Lacombe high school students have created a monument to loved ones and special moments for the community of Blackfalds. 

In 2022, Carol Simpson, general manager of the Abbey Centre in Blackfalds, reached out to explore a potential collaboration between the town and the École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School (ÉSLCHS) welding class. Through numerous discussions and meetings, the project received the green light, and work began during the 2023/24 school year.

How do the updated Fiscal Statutes impact Airdrie families and homebuyers?

The Alberta government has introduced the Financial Statutes Amendment Act, a legislative proposal designed to expand mortgage financing options and enhance support for families facing the loss of a child. If passed, the act would introduce alternative financing options through provincially regulated financial institutions, making Alberta the first province in Canada to offer such measures.

Ski season kicks off as snow falls in Cochrane area

With the snow and cooler temperatures comes the start of ski season in Alberta. 

Lake Louise Ski Resort is opening its hills to the public today. 

Not all the runs are quite ready yet, only mainly the lower mountain runs like Bald Eagle and Easy Street.

The hill has received over 10 inches of snow and has been making snow for the last two weeks in preparation for today.
