The Alberta government has introduced the Financial Statutes Amendment Act, a legislative proposal designed to expand mortgage financing options and enhance support for families facing the loss of a child. If passed, the act would introduce alternative financing options through provincially regulated financial institutions, making Alberta the first province in Canada to offer such measures.

Ski season kicks off as snow falls in Cochrane area

With the snow and cooler temperatures comes the start of ski season in Alberta. 

Lake Louise Ski Resort is opening its hills to the public today. 

Not all the runs are quite ready yet, only mainly the lower mountain runs like Bald Eagle and Easy Street.

The hill has received over 10 inches of snow and has been making snow for the last two weeks in preparation for today.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada provides update on train derailment in Rocky View County

According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), its investigators were on the site of a train derailment northeast of Airdrie, near Beiseker, on Friday. However, a spokesperson says the investigation is still in the field phase.

Winter driving in effect for Tuesday drive to work

Cochrane drivers are being reminded to slow down as they head out this morning. 

Hwy 1A between Cochrane and Calgary has reduced visibility with snow falling. 

Hwy 22 north and south of Cochrane is partially covered with snow, as is Hwy 1 to Calgary. 

Up to 2 cm of snow is expected to fall throughout the day combined with falling temperatures and strong winds. 

The snowfall is expected to taper off by tomorrow with plus temperatures on the way once again. 

Local organization is competing for a six-figure grant: 'A donation like this would have a massive impact for our community'

Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. (Protecting Our Women with Emergency Resources), a local organization providing critical support for women fleeing domestic violence, has been selected as one of 12 finalists in iA Financial Group’s Canada-wide philanthropic contest. It is also the only Alberta organization that has made it onto the finalists list. 

UPDATE: South Perimeter Highway reopens after multi-vehicle collision

UPDATE: The south perimeter at St. Mary's Road has reopened following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning.

A section of the south Perimeter Highway is closed Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle collision. 

The crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. As a result, the Perimeter Highway is closed in all directions at St. Mary's Road.  

Big changes could be coming for Airdrie condo owners

The Alberta government has introduced the Service Alberta Statutes Amendment Act, 2024, a proposed bill that could improve the lives of condominium owners, residents, and the construction industry. 

This legislation would amend the Condominium Property Act, the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (PPCLA), and the Public Works Act to address long-standing issues affecting Albertans. The amendments to the PPCLA will take effect upon proclamation, while changes to the Public Works Act are set to come into force in Spring 2025. 

No Stone Left Alone teaches Humboldt students the importance of remembrance

A solemn ceremony took place on Monday, November 4 at the Humboldt Public Cemetery. Students from Humboldt Public School gathered for their 5th No Stone Left Alone event to honour all fallen soldiers.  

Members of the Royal Canadian Legion were on hand along with members representing the Army, Navy and Air Force branches of the service. Maxine Moore was on hand to lead the attendees in the singing of the National Anthem.
