Inside Airdrie’s 2025 mid-year report: wins, delays and what comes next

Airdrie council’s 2025 mid-year update on its 2023–26 focus areas outlines progress on economic development and housing while confirming the Yankee Valley rail underpass is now scheduled for 2029.

The update is before council Sept. 16 as a consent agenda item “for information.” Corporate Strategy manager Shelly Weihmann wrote in the agenda note that “Corporate Strategy is providing the 2025 Council Focus Areas mid-year update report for information” and that “updates are reported twice a year to Council, at mid-year and year-end.”

What will become of Airdrie’s old library? Council report offers a plan

The City of Airdrie plans to convert the former Airdrie Public Library into civic administration offices, according to a report before council’s Sept. 16 consent agenda.

The document, titled Completed Analysis for Repurposing of Former Library Space, says the move to Inspire “creates an opportunity to strategically repurpose the old library while integrating it into the City’s real estate portfolio.” It adds that the report “is intended to inform potential Council members of the work in progress.”

Federal infrastructure funding being used towards Glenpatrick Dr. upgrade

The town is using this year’s federal Canada Community Building Fund (CCBF) allocation of $2,297,922 towards the $15-million infrastructure upgrade to Glenpatrick Drive.

The two-year infrastructure project is replacing water, sanitary, and storm systems while improving and adding sidewalks and pathways to support active transportation and enhance pedestrian connectivity.

Senior Men's League caddies more funds for WGC irrigation project

The Weyburn Golf Club Senior Men's held their windup on September 11th, after which they presented a $2,000 cheque to the Weyburn Golf Club's General Manager, Krystle Fedoretz.

The Executive for this year were Don McKinnon, Don Ruckaber, and George Mcleod. 

According to the 50/50 Chairperson, Murray Benson, the funds were a donation to the WGC Front Irrigation Fund to help pay off the loan on the project. The five-year total raised by the Senior Men for the Irrigation Project is now $8,200.

Slo-Pitch tournament raises funds for families with autism

Nine teams got together again this year for the SPFA Slo-Pitch tournament for Autism awareness in Swift Current.

"This year (we) raised just about $2500 out of Swift Current," said tournament convenor Vincent Sebo.

On their website, the SPFA noted they offer a series of tournaments to "raise Autism awareness by spending some time at each tournament talking about Autism to the participants, to raise understanding by educating people on the facts of Autism, and to hopefully help people with Autism gain acceptance."

Innovation Saskatchewan invests $25,000 in Startup Summit 2025 to boost tech sector

Innovation Saskatchewan is investing $25,000 in Startup Summit 2025, a one-day conference aimed at supporting early-stage tech startups in the province.

The event, hosted by Cultivator powered by Conexus, brings together founders, investors, and mentors to help Saskatchewan startups tackle challenges and grow their businesses. A summit mixer will also connect participants with the broader Prairie tech ecosystem.

Outlook Health Centre ER closed Thursday evening

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says the emergency room at the Outlook Health Centre will be closed from 4 p.m. to midnight Thursday.

During the closure, emergency services will not be available in Outlook. Patients in need of urgent care are advised to seek services at the Rosetown and District Health Centre, the Kindersley Integrated Health Facility, or Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital.

The Town of Outlook, posting the notice on behalf of the SHA, said residents with questions or comments should contact the health authority directly at 306-867-5020.

Southeast farmers make gains as harvest reaches halfway point

Farmers in the region have made significant harvest gains over the past week, but persistent rain and frost are keeping overall progress behind the 10-year average, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Harvest is currently estimated at 50 per cent complete, up 33 percentage points from the previous week.

This remains behind the five-year average of 62 per cent and the 10-year average of 60 per cent.
