Exploring careers in agriculture: Think Ag 2025 inspires Sun West students

On June 5, 2025, about 30 high school students from across the Sun West School Division got a firsthand look at career opportunities in agriculture beyond the traditional farm with Think Ag 2025, a dynamic event hosted by Sun West in partnership with the Regina District Industry and Education Council.
The day-long event, held at the Sun West Learning Centre in Rosetown, brought together students from 12 schools including Kindersley Composite, Outlook High, Rosetown Central High, and Biggar Central School 2000.

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of southeastern Manitoba, including the Rural Municipality of Hanover, Steinbach, Niverville, and Grunthal. The alert was issued Saturday afternoon and remains in effect as unstable weather conditions continue across the region.

Update: Severe weather watch issued for Airdrie; neighbouring counties under a warning
Environment Canada has lifted a series of severe thunderstorm watches that were in place for Airdrie, Crossfield and several parts of southern Alberta Saturday.
The weather agency had warned that thunderstorms forming along the eastern slopes of the Rockies could track southeast through the evening, with the potential to bring damaging winds, torrential rainfall and hail up to the size of a loonie.
“The risk of severe thunderstorms will diminish this evening,” Environment Canada said in a 2:24 p.m. update.
RCMP arrest 61-year-old man for possession for the purpose of trafficking
RCMP arrested a man as part of a check to ensure he was following court-ordered release order conditions at a residence in Oxbow earlier this week.
On June 25, Carnduff RCMP conducted a check of a male’s residence, as was permitted as part of his conditions.
During the search, officers located and seized approximately 26 grams of methamphetamine, 22 pharmaceutical-style pills, about 10 grams of a white powder sent for further testing, and trafficking paraphernalia.

Lacombe sees increase in bicycle thefts
The Lacombe Police Service is alerting the community to a recent increase in bicycle thefts across the city.
Officers have responded to a significant rise in reports of stolen bicycles over the past few weeks.
Police say bicycle thefts are often crimes of opportunity, and they are encouraging all bike owners to take proactive steps to help reduce the risk.
SaskPower union says stress lifted as coal plants will operate past 2030
Saskatchewan coal power plants have their workers buzzing with excitement now that the province has confirmed they'll be extending the plants' lifetimes past 2030. Despite a federal initiative to close those by 2030, the provincial government stated in a letter to SaskPower employees that coal power would remain a segment of Saskatchewan's power production strategy into the future.

Tornado damage may need a close eye for farmers fields in the southeast
Tornadoes ripped through the southeast last week, with stormchasers following a few touchdowns in farmers' fields in the area. Those fields saw emergence a while ago and are now in the growing stage, meaning these plants are vulnerable to the heavy winds, hail, and more that come from a tornado.
Local Agrologist Edgar Hammermeister says that, as far as he's heard, damage to any farmyard thanks to the tornadoes has been limited.
