RCMP provide further updates on fatal highway 39 shooting, seek new vehicle

Update - The owner of the vehicle the RCMP were searching for has been identified. RCMP have spoken with the driver and are no longer looking for information related to this vehicle.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes unit had a heavy presence in Weyburn over the weekend, following a shooting on Highway 39. 

Funding available for non-profit organizations in Rocky View County

Rocky View County (RVC) is currently accepting applications for its Community Recreation Funding Grant.

This grant offers funding to assist non-profit community organizations providing recreational services to county residents.

According to RVC, the funding can be used for general operating funding and capital costs:

Province offers $250,000 in grants for suicide prevention initiatives

The Saskatchewan government is providing $250,000 in grants to support community-led suicide prevention programs across the province as part of its Pillars for Life suicide prevention plan.

The Suicide Prevention Grant Program will fund at least 25 grants of up to $10,000 each, targeting initiatives that develop leadership, reduce suicide risks, increase resource awareness, reduce stigma, and promote healthy lifestyles.

Saskatchewan Retro GameCon draws provincial crowd for inaugural event

The first-ever Saskatchewan Retro GameCon attracted gaming enthusiasts from across Western Canada to Temple Gardens Centre on Saturday, with sold-out tournaments and vendors reporting strong interest in vintage gaming culture.

Event organizer Jared Dormer, who also drums for the Scott Benson Band, said the response exceeded expectations.

"I'm so excited. It's a packed house. People are coming from across the province, Alberta, BC. The vendors are stoked to be here. We just can't believe it's happening today," Dormer said during the event.

Local land now under NCC conservation agreement

A 25-hectare slice of a rapidly disappearing ecosystem is set to be preserved in southwestern Saskatchewan. 

The Nature Conservancy of Canada announced last week that they've partnered with a local couple in a conservation agreement to support a landscape vital for flood mitigation, carbon sequestration, and home to countless species of fauna and flora.
