Woman charged after inbound flight from Winnipeg leads to $140K drug seizure
At 8 p.m. on Sept. 7, Oxford House RCMP received a report from a First Nation Safety Officer that a 37-year-old female, travelling from Winnipeg, was in possession of a large quantity of drugs.
The suspect was transported to the Oxford House RCMP Detachment and turned over to police.
Following the investigation, officers seized approximately 251 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 24 grams of cocaine and 200 illicit pills believed to be oxycodone. The estimated community street value of these drugs is approximately $140,000.

West End residents displaced after house fire on Furby Street
A fire Tuesday evening has displaced some West End residents.
The blaze broke out just before 9:30 p.m. in a house in the 500 block of Furby Street.
Heavy flames and smoke were coming from the house when crews arrived. Firefighters used aerial ladders to fight the fire from above.
It was declared under control shortly after 11 p.m.
One firefighter was assessed by paramedics, but did not require a trip to the hospital.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to provide temporary support for displaced residents.
Update: RCMP identify suspect in alleged Three Hills break and enter
RCMP have identified a suspect in connection with an August break-in in Three Hills and are asking the public for help locating him.
Police say James Wardrop, a resident of Ontario, is wanted after a home was broken into on Aug. 8 between 4:30 and 6:20 p.m. Assorted items were stolen.
Investigators say he had approached the homeowner earlier offering repair services and was driving a newer-model Ford F-150.

Strathmore cornhole club hosts tournament for community organizations
The Mad Hatters Cornhole Club held their second annual cornhole tournament earlier this week.
A total of 34 players made it out to Kinsmen Park on Monday (Sept. 8) afternoon to enjoy some games at the park, with players from Foothills Advocacy In Motion, Strathmore Connect, and Accredited Supports to the Community.
Get your groove on at Ponoka Ice Disco Saturday
The Ponoka Arena Complex is turning back the clock with an Ice Disco on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Skaters are encouraged to dress in disco-era outfits and enjoy an evening of lights and music on the ice at 4410 54 Street.
The event is open to all ages, though children under eight must be directly supervised by someone 16 or older.
Admission is $2 at the door, or free with a Ponoka Arena Complex or Recreation Pass.

Scammers target Alberta owners of missing pets, BBB warns
Alberta’s Better Business Bureau says owners of lost pets are being targeted in a new extortion scheme.
Scammers are contacting people who post missing-pet notices online, claiming to have found the animal and demanding a fee for its return.
“This scam highlights the lengths that scammers will take to get your hard earned money,” Mary O’Sullivan-Andersen, president and CEO of BBB Serving Alberta and East Kootenay, said in a written news release today.
Rail crossing repairs prompt weekend road closure in Red Deer County
Motorists in Red Deer County are being advised of a road closure this weekend as CP Rail carries out track crossing repairs.
The closure will be in place from 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 until 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.
The affected area includes Springbrook in Red Deer County.
Residents and drivers are asked to use alternate routes or posted detours. Those not in the area are encouraged to avoid it altogether and follow the direction of local authorities.
Cochrane Outhouse Races flushed for 2025
The Great Cochrane Outhouse Races will not take place this year.
The long-running September tradition typically sees teams from local businesses and organizations pushing homemade outhouse carts down First Street in a chuck wagon-style race.
The event, taken over a few years ago by the Rocky Mountain Rotary Club, has become a major draw, shutting down Historic Downtown Cochrane and attracting big crowds.
