Weekend weather sees 16 collisions reported to RCMP
With the deluge of snow that brought deteriorating road conditions throughout the province, it was a busy weekend for the Saskatchewan RCMP.
They said there were 16 reports of motor vehicle collisions thought to be related to poor driving conditions between 12 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 and 12 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.
SPCA designs have council hopeful for the future
In the first Swift Current city council meeting of the year, the Swift Current SPCA had some great news delivered.
City council gave notice of motion to the public if it intends to consider a change to the existing discretionary use at 2101 Knight Crescent, due to the proposed new humane animal facility.
December 1 deadline approaches for Christmas Hamper & Angel Tree
The Estevan Community Hamper and Angel Tree programs are preparing to bring holiday joy to families in need, with a crucial deadline of December 1 for applications.
Jolie Bayda, a representative for the programs, said the initiatives aim to ensure no child or family is left behind during the festive season, providing toys, gifts, and meals to those who need them most.
“Every year, we try and collect brand-new presents for all the kids in town whose families might not be able to afford them or are having a tough month,” Bayda said.
Highway 4 collision north of North Battleford leaves 2 dead, 1 injured
Two people are dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 4, approximately eight kilometres north of North Battleford, Sask., on Friday evening.
Battlefords RCMP responded to the crash at around 6:30 p.m., along with local fire crews and EMS. Investigators determined a car and a truck collided.
The driver and passenger of the car, a 35-year-old man from North Battleford and a 35-year-old woman from Douglas, Sask., were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Police say their families have been notified.
'We will have to continue to find efficiencies' SECPSD reports year-end financials
The Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division (SECPSD) held a regular meeting of the Board of Education on November 20th. Chief Financial Officer Shelly Toth says the division ended the fiscal year with a $1.1 million deficit, just slightly below the budgeted deficit of $1.2 million.
The division saw $3.5 million in unrestricted surplus, which Toth explains has decreased by $26 000 in the last year. She says they are fortunate to have surplus from prior years to draw from when there are deficits.
Christmas spirit to light up Bruno
With the Christmas season just around the corner, the town of Bruno is about to get the holidays underway.
On Tuesday, December 3 the Christmas on Main celebrations will take place.
Committee member Jennie Glessman says the event is Bruno's kickoff for the festive season as local businesses help spruce Pioneer Park.
Location change for tonight’s pet nail trim fundraiser
There's been a slight change of plans for Spike Grooming’s monthly pet nail trim fundraiser, happening today from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
The location is changing from Pet Valu, with the nail trim event now happening at Spike Grooming’s building at 817 High St W instead.

Snow clearing plows ahead in Swift Current
The snow cleaning is moving along in Swift Current, with the City of Swift Current working to keep ahead of any additional snow.
Currently, Swift Current has two shifts of crews operating both night and day. The split of personnel means that they are much less visible during the day, as more members are working at night.
Greg Parsons, general manager of infrastructure and operations for the City of Swift Current, is happy with the progress they have made on the priority maps.
