Drone delays rescue crews in fatal crash near Steinbach

Manitoba RCMP say STARS air ambulance was delayed in landing at a fatal crash northeast of Steinbach earlier this month, because of a drone flying in the area. 

During the evening of September 3rd, Steinbach RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision along Provincial Road 210 at Road 41N, in the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne. Police say a vehicle travelling north collided with a southbound vehicle.

Morden YFC receives much needed grant from Canada Post Foundation to finish a big project  

Thanks to a Charity for Youth and Children Initiatives Grant from Canada Post Foundation (CPF), the Morden Youth for Christ (YFC) will now be able to complete the basketball court portion of their backyard project fundraiser. 

Kris Hansen Canada Post Local Area Manager for Southeastern Manitoba said YFC Morden was one of three organizations in his region to receive a grant. 

Seine River School Board considers reducing trustees from nine to six

The Seine River School Board is looking for public input regarding a motion to reduce the number of trustees in the division. 

Trustee Robert Rivard made the motion to reduce the nine-member school board down to only six trustees for the next election in 2026. 

Chair Wendy Bloomfield says the motion was initially made at the end of June, and it has now been deferred until their meeting in December. 

Joint School Supply Drive to Benefit Western and Garden Valley School Divisions

In a collaborative effort to support students in need, the Western School Division and Garden Valley School Division are joining forces for a significant back-to-school supply drive. This event, held in partnership with Decor Cabinets, will take place at Walmart in Winkler on September 18th and 19th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Eagle 93.5FM, Country88 and CFAM Radio 950 broadcasting on location both days.

Major aquaculture project in Rockwood to provide over 200 jobs and economic growth

Canada's largest Arctic Char facility is being constructed in the RM of Rockwood, creating up to 104 jobs, with another 120 expected indirectly.

It’s a $145-million project, with the province contributing $10.75 million to Sapphire Springs, the company spearheading the initiative.

RM of Rockwood Reeve Wes Taplin notes that the project is still in its infancy, but when completed, Arctic char will be bred and raised at the facility located east of Gunton.

Premier Smith has a multi-billion dollar plan to tackle student enrolment surge

In her evening address to the province, Premier Smith announced that her cabinet and Treasury Board have approved a new school construction accelerator program to address the province's exploding student enrolment growth.

"We will be increasing our K to 12 capital budget for new school spaces and modernizations to approximately $8.6 billion over the next three years," she said. "This will allow us to complete actual construction on approximately 50,000 new student spaces over the next three years and to complete and open 150,000 new spaces over the next four years."

STARS transports one patient following two-vehicle collision near Ste. Anne

Emergency crews were called to a serious two-vehicle collision around 5:30 Tuesday evening at the intersection of Highway 12 and PR 210 near Ste. Anne. 

Ste. Anne Fire Chief Bob Saindon says the collision involved a truck and an SUV. He says there were two people in the SUV and the driver was taken to hospital in Winnipeg by STARS Air Ambulance while the passenger was taken to hospital by ground ambulance.

Update: Power out in Cypress Hills area

Update at 9:10 p.m.

Power south of Maple Creek including in Cypress Hills has been restored after repairs were made.

A power outage south of Maple Creek has left some SaskPower customers in the dark this evening.

According to the Crown corporation, crews were dispatched to the area to determine the cause of the outage and repair time. 

Cypress Hills is one of the areas being affected by the outage.
