5 million adults without primary care, surgeries returning to normal: CIHI report
A new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information says 83 per cent of adults in this country have a regular primary-care provider, but that still leaves 5.4 million adults without one.
It says seniors 65 years and older are more likely to have access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner than younger adults between 18 and 34.
Access to primary care is highest in Ontario and lowest in Nunavut.

Liberals attempt show of unity after tense caucus meeting with Trudeau
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told his MPs Wednesday that he would reflect on what they had to say in a three-hour caucus meeting where some Liberals confronted him about his leadership.
Trudeau was smiling when he left the meeting on Wednesday afternoon, and as he walked briskly past a horde of reporters on Parliament Hill he said only that the Liberal party is "strong and united."
Calgary semi-truck crash kills 17 cows
A crash involving a semi-truck killed 17 cows in south Calgary during the evening of Tuesday (Oct. 22).
According to a news release from police, the crash took place after 8 p.m. near Stoney Trail S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E. when a semi-truck lost control and tipped over while travelling on an off-ramp.
Around 95 cattle were in the vehicle, and members of Calgary police, firefighters, RCMP, highway road crews, cattle rustlers, and a veterinarian rescued the cows from the semi-trailer.
Five Halloween events happening in the area this weekend
With Halloween just over a week away, there are already plenty of events happening in Strathmore and the surrounding area in the weekend leading up to the end of October.
1. Fright Night (Oct. 25 & 26) - Strathmore Ag Grounds
Strathmore's annual Halloween celebration begins on Friday night at the Strathmore Ag Grounds.
The event features a kid's boo bash party, a Halloween dance, and an adult cabaret-style event.
Township Road 221 to close for repairs by the rail crossing
Township Road 221 at the rail crossing will be closed starting next week for temporary construction.
According to the county, work will start on Monday (Oct. 28) at 8 a.m. and will wrap up at 12 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 29)
Staff with the municipality say construction is needed to replace the rail crossing surface.
The county is encouraging residents to follow posted signage and detours.
Chestermere child boxer returns from Edmonton with championship belt
A young boxer from Chestermere returned from the north with a championship belt.
Twelve-year-old George Moliakov has been boxing for the last six months with Olympus Chestermere Boxing Club. His father Artem also serves as his coach.
"I went to the gym to lose weight, and I liked it, so I started boxing," said Moliakov.
Moliakov was in Edmonton on Saturday (Oct. 19) for a bout against another young boxer. In the end, Moliakov ended up winning by a split decision.
Watch out for these waffle brands that have been recalled
Certain waffle brands have been recalled due to listeria contamination.
According to the Government of Canada, they are asking residents to not eat, sell, or serve the recalled products.
The waffle brands are Great Value, No Name, Western Family, and Compliments.
The items are distributed by Treehouse Foods.
Who is our newest Volunteer of the Month?
A big congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month Stacey Langen!
Langen has been volunteering for many years with Westmount Hot Lunch which delivers food to the students at Westmount School.
"It was a lovely surprise to get this nomination. I volunteer at the Westmount Elementary School as part of the parent council group. I coordinate all the hot lunches that our kids receive on Wednesdays," said Langen.
She explained why she decided to jump into the volunteering world.
