Strathmore hockey player takes home Memorial Cup in OHL championship
Austin Elliott, a Strathmore-based hockey goalie, helped the London Knights win the Memorial Cup.
On June 1, the Knights defeated the Oshawa Generals 4-1, marking the third time that the London team had become champions in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
"My family has owned a ranch just south of Strathmore since I was born," said Elliott. "I moved from Calgary to Strathmore in 2016, and I've called the town home for the last ten years."
A summer of reading: library summer registration opens
The Strathmore Library hosted its first summer fest.
On June 13, Strathmore residents gathered outside of the library to enjoy hot dogs, participate in outdoor activities, and register for programs on Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Drumheller RCMP locate missing teenager
Drumheller RCMP have found a missing girl.
According to police, 15-year-old Kaya Milligan went missing on Friday (June 13) and was last seen near Beech Street and McConkey Park.
On Sunday night officers announced that Milligan was located safe.
Police thanked the public for their assistance in finding her.
Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald visits Saskatchewan to meet with producers
Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald recently spent Friday and Saturday touring Saskatchewan.
During his visit, he had an opportunity to talk with producers and stakeholders about key agricultural issues and concerns and the potential opportunities that exist within the industry today and in the future.
Carney's task at G7 will be to keep the group alive as experts question the outcome
As Prime Minister Mark Carney gets ready to host U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders at the G7 summit in Alberta, analysts say Canada's most important goal will be to keep the G7 from falling apart — even if that means not issuing a joint statement.
"Keeping this informal international organization together will, I think, be a mark of success," said Sen. Peter Boehm, a former diplomat who played a central role in Canada’s participation in the G7 for decades.
Canada and the United Kingdom think and work alike, Starmer says during Ottawa visit
The historic ties and long-standing working relationship between the United Kingdom and Canada are not just reflections of the past, but are very much needed "in the here and now," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday.
Starmer said the two Commonwealth members think and work alike, having collaborated for years on issues of security, defence, trade and the economy.
Starmer met with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ottawa on Sunday before the two leaders headed for the G7 leaders' summit in Alberta.
Woman dead after crash in Drumheller
A woman is dead after a crash in Drumheller over the weekend.
Officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and semi-truck at around 4 p.m. on Saturday (June 14). The crash was on Highway 9 near Highway 836.
"The semi and the pick-up truck caught fire, with the semi being fully engulfed in the north ditch and the pick-up being in the middle of the highway," wrote Drumheller RCMP.
A third vehicle, an SUV, went into the ditch to avoid collision.
Wheatland County under Severe Thunderstorm Watch
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Wheatland County.
The watch was put in effect on Sunday (June 15) due to conditions being favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms in the evening.
"Local travel delays are possible. Driving conditions may be difficult," wrote Environment Canada. "When thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year."
The group added that heavy rain can lead to flash flooding and reduced visibility. Large hail can also cause significant damage and injury.
One arrested after heavy police presence in Delia
Drumheller RCMP have given an update on the police event at the village of Delia.
"One suspect has been arrested and there is no danger to the public," wrote RCMP on Saturday (June 14), a few hours after the presence was announced.
Police say an update will be provided once charges have been laid.
PM Carney says he has no plans to tackle 24 Sussex question during his mandate
