Conservatives push for a 'three-strikes' law, tougher sanctions for domestic violence
The Conservatives are pushing for a "three strikes" law to deny bail to repeat offenders and tougher sanctions for domestic violence.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre made crime a central focus of his election campaign in the spring, and on Thursday he brought that message to the House of Commons.
The Conservatives brought forward a motion calling on the government to introduce what they call a "three-strikes-and-you're-out" law to prevent people convicted of three "serious" offences from getting bail, probation, parole or house arrest.
UPDATE: Accident reported on Highway 13
4:30 p.m. - The Saskatchewan RMCP have confirmed a semi-truck rollover on Highway 13 approximately 8 kilometres west of Stoughton. The incident was reported to the RCMP around 1:30 p.m. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the incident; however, traffic restrictions were implemented during cleanup efforts. Restrictions remain in place as cleanup continues and there is no estimated time of completion.

Olympia In Depth team compete at Powerlifting World Championships
Weyburn’s Olympia In Depth Performance Powerlifting team had three athletes attend the IPF Junior and Sub-Junior World Championships in Costa Rica, held from August 25th to September 5th, 2025. They were joined by Team Canada Head Coach Ryan Fowler of Olympia In Depth Performance.
Calla Hrynewich competed in the equipped powerlifting division, in the 63 kg sub-junior class:
Squat: 157.5 kg
Bench: 95 kg
Deadlift: 140 kg
Total: 392.5 kg
Harvest in southeast lags after significant rains
Significant rainfall brought harvest to a halt across much of southeast Saskatchewan last week, stalling progress for producers who are now past the halfway mark but behind historical averages. The latest crop report from the Ministry of Agriculture for the period ending September 15th shows harvest in the region is 58 per cent complete. This is an increase of only eight per cent from the previous week and lags behind the five-year average of 76 per cent for this time of year.

Golf tournament minus the golf still equals a success: Dr. Mainprize Park Foundation
Rainy weather resulted in the Dr. Mainprize Park Foundation canceling the golf portion of the second annual $1 Par 3 golf tournament on Saturday, but the community nonetheless showed up to support at Pederson Place to help out the organization with its fundraising efforts.
President Brandon Rosengren said he was surprised at the turnout for the supper and auction, which was around 150 people.
WPS respond to 'strange' theft: Vehicle stolen while owner lay sleeping
A vehicle theft was reported to the Weyburn Police Service last week. Deputy Chief Shane St. John describes the incident as “strange” saying some people were assisting someone in their home and then stole their vehicle.
“Some people had assisted a person, and they were at their residence and while they were asleep, took their vehicle. They noticed it shortly after, called us, and we were able to find the vehicle rather quickly, was arrested without incident, and we got the vehicle back without any damage to it.”
Fatal rollover on Highway 1 near Wapella
A 26-year-old man from Moosomin is dead following a single-vehicle rollover near Wapella on Tuesday morning. According to a release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers received a report of the crash on Highway 1 at approximately 9:30 a.m. on September 16.
Police responded along with local fire departments and Emergency Medical Services. The man, who was the only person in the vehicle, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. His family has been notified.
U15 AA Wings open preseason at home versus Estevan
The U15 AA Annugas Weyburn Wings took to the ice for their first game of the season Wednesday night, an exhibition matchup against the Estevan Bruins.
Neither team would get things going offensively until the second period, when the Bruins would open things up. Ethan Phillips would score a hat trick for the visitors, while Lucas Desaultes would score two goals and add an assist as Estevan took home a 6-1 victory. Kade Taylor scored a goal for the visitors as well.
