Premiers praise Carney and one another as they wrap up meetings in Ontario
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe wrapped three days of meetings with his fellow premiers and Prime Minister Mark Carney Wednesday with a message he admitted he wouldn't have sent over the past decade.
"We can be proud of the work our federal government is doing, in fairness," Moe said.
Moe has been one of the federal Liberal government's most vocal critics in recent years — and criticism of Ottawa is usually guaranteed when provincial leaders gather.
Weyburn Red Wings search for non-profits for next season's Jersey Nights
Although most people probably aren’t thinking about the hockey season here in July. For the Weyburn Red Wings, hockey and community are always top of mind. As the Red Wings prepare for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 13th and the start date of the regular season less than two months away, they’re looking to partner up with non-profit organizations here in Weyburn. Ryder Burns, sales and marketing director for the Red Wings, says they’ve had tons of success in the past and want to do more this 2025-2026 season.

John Brian Corey, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on July 9, 2025 at the age of 79 years.

RCMP: Weyburn man arrested for aggravated assault in Corinne incident
The Milestone RCMP arrested a Weyburn man on Tuesday, July 22nd, after an incident at a business in Corinne.
According to a post on social media, two truckers got into an altercation in the fertilizer shed at the Pioneer Elevator at around 7:30 a.m. During the altercation, one trucker stabbed the other in the chest twice before barricading himself in a semi.
RCMP responded immediately to the report of a serious assault at approximately 8 a.m., joined by EMS and STARS.
$6 million investment announced for Manitoba's agri-food sector
Manitoba is continuing to work on growing the agri-food sector.
Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn announced over $6 million in funding from the province and the federal government to increase food processing opportunities.
The announcement was made at Maple Leaf Foods in Brandon, one of the recipients of the funding.
Maple Leaf's President of Pork Operations Dennis Organ says the investment will help modernize the Brandon pork facility with state-of-the-art equipment, improving reliability, efficiency and production quality.
Sports Court complete: Foam Party coming up at Nickle Lake Regional Park
The Sports Court at Nickle Lake Regional Park is now ready for action, complete with basketball hoops, pickleball nets, and fencing.
Park Manager Darren Wheeler said it was a couple of months in the making, and was finished off with plexi-paint.
"TOMCO Construction out of Calgary, Alberta, did the painting, and D.S.I. [Contracting] did all the concrete, and Epic Fence did the fencing on it.
The multi-purpose court is open for anyone to play whatever sport they like, and Wheeler said the kids have been having fun at night playing basketball since it opened.
Weyburn sees drop in crime severity, overall incidents
The latest Crime Severity Index, and other police-reported crime statistics, were released by Statistics Canada Tuesday. The numbers show the Crime Severity Index in Weyburn dropped by nearly 25 per cent in 2024, the largest decrease of any city in Saskatchewan. In fact, the total number of Criminal Code violations was the lowest the city has seen in over 25 years. In addition to the decline in the crime severity index, Weyburn also saw a drop in crimes against the person and crimes against property.
Name chosen for post-merger credit union in Saskatchewan
The name for the merged credit union, made up of Conexus, Cornerstone, and Synergy Credit Unions, will be Conexus Credit Union. The announcement was made official Wednesday morning. The first CEO of the new entity was also announced, with current Conexus Credit Union CEO Celina Philpot being selected by the boards of the three current credit unions. She will officially step into the role January 1st, 2026, when the merger takes effect.
Deputy Chief comments on mental health calls, cyber-bullying
The Weyburn Police Service continues to respond to an increasing number of mental health calls each week, with 13 last week, and, of those 13, two people were taken to the hospital.
"Unfortunately, the one person was in a rather really poor state, and EMS was called right away to get them to the hospital. They ended up being okay in the end but it was a close call," shared Deputy Chief Shane St. John.
