Need help with school supplies? Wednesday is the Back to School Program deadline

Local stores are making school supplies available now, as Weyburn students will be returning to school in just a little over a month.

While it can be a fun time for kids to join their parents to pick out their school supplies for the year, for some parents, back-to-school shopping presents more financial challenges.

Wednesday, July 30th, is the last day to apply for the Weyburn Salvation Army's Back to School program.

Two charged in connection with weekend thefts in Midale

The Saskatchewan RCMP have confirmed the arrests made over the weekend in Midale, following a string of thefts. According to a release sent by the RCMP, several reports were made to the Weyburn RCMP on Saturday regarding thefts from vehicles and garages, with stolen items including electronics, tools, cigarettes, and change. 

An investigation was opened and included assistance from the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Police Dog Services. By the end of the day, two men were located and arrested in relation to the incidents. 

Flaring scheduled for Wednesday in R.M. of Lomond: SaskEnergy

If drivers and residents in the R.M. of Lomond see a 40-foot flame being emitted approximately five kilometres northeast of the hamlet of Colgate this Wednesday, July 30th, it is coming from a flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure. 

This is due to a controlled natural gas flaring at the TransGas station site, located within the RM of Lomond, west of Highway 35. Flaring will take place from 6:30 to 10 a.m. tomorrow, subject to change based on operating requirements.

Holyer, Grace Rose

Grace Rose Holyer, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on July 26, 2025 at the age of 82 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jabez and Lillian Holyer; uncle John “Jack” Holyer; son, Lance Murphy; sister, Daisy Miles; brother, Jabez “Ted” Holyer; nephew, Danny Miles.

Weyburn and area organizations benefit from charitable gaming grants

The provincial government announced roughly $2.49 million in charitable gaming grants for the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year on Tuesday morning. The grants are paid out by Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan to groups and organizations that are in good standing and host licensed charitable gaming activities, such as bingos, raffles, and 50/50 draws. The grants are equal to 25 per cent of the net revenue raised by the event.  

Elderly man located in Weyburn after reported missing en route to Midale

A missing person was located by the Weyburn Police Service last week, after a BOLO (be on the look out) was issued by the RCMP. An elderly man had left Regina en route to Midale at 2:30 p.m., but had not arrived by 8:15 p.m.  

Deputy Chief with the WPS, Shane St. John, says the description of the vehicle and driver was noticed by one of their members on patrol.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Jean-Guy Ovila Allaire. Jean Guy had a life full of laughter, jokes and the best stories. For everyone who knew him, he was always willing to help.
Jean Guy was predeceased by his parents, Antonio & Lucia Allaire; in laws, Alfred and Flora Laplante; brother-in-law, Robert Spence and sister-in-law, Pierette Lafranboise.

Final days to enter Weyburn Trails Association bike raffle

Time is running out to support the Weyburn Trails Association and potentially win a new mountain bike. They'll be making the draw on July 31st.

The volunteer-led organization is holding a raffle for a 2024 Norco Storm 1 mountain bike, with the draw scheduled for this Wednesday. All proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund equipment and build and maintain the trail system in and around Weyburn.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada Backyard BioBlitz is on now, as they invite all Canadians to participate in capturing the various plant and animal species found across the country. 

Kayla Balderson, Engagement Manager with Nature Conservancy of Canada, says this is the fifth year they’ve held the BioBlitz, and Saskatchewan residents have made a notable contribution, with 300 participating last year.
