Weyburn city councillors to attend SUMA convention in Saskatoon

Weyburn will have strong representation at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) Convention, which gets underway in Saskatoon on Sunday. Running through to Wednesday, the annual event brings together municipal leaders from across the province to network, learn, and advocate for their communities — and for first-time attendee Councillor Kellie Sidloski, it’s a highly anticipated opportunity. 

Weyburn's 'community for all': Accessibility survey launches Monday

The City of Weyburn Accessibility Committee is launching a survey early next week, a crucial part of the development of a community Accessibility Plan.

In early February, Weyburn City Council approved the development and implementation of an accessibility plan. This is part of the provincial standard set in the Accessible Saskatchewan Act, requiring public sector bodies to create accessibility plans by December 3, 2025..  

RCMP sends out list of 11 currently wanted individuals for April update

The Saskatchewan RCMP are warning people in the province with a list of 11 currently wanted individuals, some of whom may be in the southeast.

They released that list earlier today as a way to remind people of what to do if they see a wanted individual.

From the March list, three of those individuals were arrested by the RCMP over the month.

The names on the list that may be present in the southeast include:

WPS reminds Weyburn residents to comply with pet waste bylaw

With the return of spring weather, the Weyburn Police Service is reminding residents to clean up after their pets.  

This mandated in the City of Weyburn bylaw which states “Every person having ownership or control of a dog or cat shall immediately remove all excrement left by such dog or cat in any public place in the City or in any private place in the City to which access has not been expressly permitted by the owner of occupant thereof. Any such person failing to immediately remove such excrement shall be in violation of the Bylaw” 

Successful fundraiser for Weyburn Legion: indoor garage sale

From small household items and knick knacks, to furniture, bicycles, and even clothing, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #47's Huge Indoor Garage Sale held last weekend raised more than $8,000, and it all goes back into the Legion's general operating fund.

"We want to send out a huge shoutout and a huge thank you to all the people that donated items for our three-day garage sale," said Board Member Jerry Ponto. 

While there were some bigger-ticket items included in the sale, the smaller items added up quickly as well.

Carney pitches crime policy, tougher laws on harassment at places of worship

Liberal Leader Mark Carney said Thursday he would pass tougher laws to stop people from being harassed at their places of worship, part of a suite of crime and justice measures he unveiled at a campaign stop in southern Ontario.

The promise comes after more than a year of reports of rising hate targeting Jews and Muslims in Canada following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel in 2023, and the war in Gaza.

Hodson takes the helm as Chair of Manitoba Crop Alliance

The Manitoba Crop Alliance has a new leader at the helm as Jonathan Hodson recently stepped into the role of board chair. Farming near Lenore in western Manitoba, Hodson brings years of experience to the position and a deep understanding of the organization, having been involved since its formation five years ago. 

Hodson has served in various roles over the years, including most recently as vice-chair. Before the formation of the MCA, he was a director with the Manitoba Corn Growers Association, one of the organizations that merged to form the alliance. 

Thompson, Wylie Richard

Wylie Richard Thompson, late of Weyburn, SK (formerly of Lake Alma, SK) passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 84 years.

Wylie was predeceased by his parents, William and Catherine Thompson; granddaughter, Ava Trobert; brother, Lewis Thompson; niece, Lucy Stadler; nephew, Dwight Thompson; his in-laws, John and Margaret Yanyu; brothers-in-law, Larry Stadler, Brian Huber and Henry Yanyu.

Last call for coaches: Weyburn Soccer Association needs volunteers

With their season kicking off in early May, the Weyburn Soccer Association is currently in the process of organizing teams, assigning coaches, and building the season schedule.

The WSA is, however, still in need of coaches in all age groups, and today they put out a final call for volunteers.

If they are unable to find a coach for a group, refunds may need to be issued for the players for teams that do not have coaches.

Dembiczak, Rose Ann

Rose Ann Dembiczak, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 87 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; parents, William and Aggie; sister-in-law, Doris Gelsinger; brothers-in-law: Larry Dembiczak,Joe Gelsinger, Murray Lazoskie, Martin Mastel
and Johnny Mastel.
