68th annual rodeo just over the Hallonquist horizon
The 68th Amateur Hallonquist Rodeo is set to kick up some family-friendly competition this weekend with live music, beer gardens, and over a dozen events, including wild cow milking and native cow racing.
The annual rodeo is set for this Saturday, with team roping slack at 9:30 a.m., barrel racing slack at 11:00 a.m., and all other events kicking off at 2:00 p.m.

Humboldt Golf Club tees off historic week as host of 2025 Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships
The 2025 Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships teed off Tuesday morning at the Humboldt Golf Club, bringing over 150 of the province’s top golfers to the region.
This marks the first time the Men’s Amateur Championship has ever been held in Humboldt. While the Women’s Amateur made a stop here in 2014 and the Mixed Championship followed in 2017, this week represents a significant milestone for both the club and the city.
Sun Devils rally for thrilling walk-off win; close out home schedule in Unity tonight
Unity played host to an exciting AAA baseball game on Monday. The Zone 7 Sun Devils hosted the Parkland Expos for a Monday matinee that didn't disappoint, finishing a 10-9 walk off victory for the home side Sun Devils.
The hits came early as the Sun Devils padded a 6-0 lead through the fourth inning, though after a scoreless fifth, Parkland finally broke through with a big inning to cut the gap to 6-4 entering the seventh.
Tight battle goes to Oyen in FVBL Finals opener; Game 2 goes Tuesday
The Oyen Eagles and Rosetown Angels began their Fertile Valley Baseball League championship series back on Sunday in Rosetown.
Travelling into Saskatchewan across Highway 7, the Eagles won 7-6 to take an early series lead. The Angels played well on their home diamond taking a 5-3 lead through the middle innings, but the Eagles offense proved too much as they swooped and took a last inning win.
U13B Strathmore Venom take home provincial silver
It was a strong end of the season for the U13B Strathmore Venom lacrosse team.
Over the weekend, the Venom wrapped up their season, winning second place at provincials.
"They left it all on the floor in a competitive final against the Medicine Hat Sun Devils and showed determination, progress, and true Venom spirit all season long," wrote the club through social media.
The victory came two weeks after the boys achieved a 7-5 win against the Hornets, taking home the league championship.
Raleigh becomes first catcher to win Home Run Derby; MLB All-Star game tonight
Last night kicked off festivities for the 2025 MLB All-Star break starting with a familiar fan favourite; the T-Mobile Home Run Derby. The history of the Home Run Derby dates back to the 1960's with a TV show called Home Run Derby which featured MLB stars such as Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Mickey Mantle slugging it out for a chance to win $2000. It was officially inaugurated in 1985 and since then, has been a smash hit for viewers looking to see the best power hitters in baseball.
Golden Eels set to welcome 250 swimmers for south semi-finals this weekend
The Estevan Golden Eels will welcome hundreds of swimmers and their families Saturday as the club hosts the south semi-finals of the summer swimming season.
Organizers expect about 250 swimmers to take part. Competitors are coming from across southern Saskatchewan, with clubs from Weyburn, Oxbow, Regina, Assiniboia, Biggar, Elrose, Gravelbourg, Swift Current and other communities making the trip to Estevan.
Opening ceremonies and skills competition included in 11U Provincial Baseball weekend in Humboldt
Championship baseball will be in the city this weekend.
The 11U AA Tier 1 Provincial Championships will take place in Humboldt with three full days of action on the diamond featuring nine teams including the host Humboldt Dodgers.
Assistant Coach Nicole Unrau says along with the games, there will be opening ceremonies on Friday night at 7:00. 40 Ounce Philosophy will be on hand to provide music for the ceremonies and the introductions of the participating squads.
U13, U19 softball provincials send teams far and wide
A local softball tournament in Unity this past weekend took the spotlight to start the week, but local teams were busy province wide playing in some fierce competition to end their season.

All three Western Canadian Baseball League games scheduled for last night were postponed due to rain. There are four games are on the slate tonight including the Moose Jaw Miller Express at home to the Weyburn Beavers. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. at Ross Wells Park.
Major League Baseball's All-Star Game is on tonight in Atlanta. Blue Jay's Vladimir Guererro Junior will start at first base for the American League while his Toronto teammate Alejandro Kirk is also suiting up. The game gets underway at 6 p.m. at Truist Park.
