U13 AAA South Central Cubs ready to roar into new season
After doing some work indoors, the U13 AAA South Central Cubs are ready to head outside onto the diamond and start the 2025 season.
Coach Scott Edwards admits this time of year is special as a new season is on the horizon. "We're feeling good, it's been a bit of a grind through the last month as we worked through indoor sessions, given the climate we're in. We've gotten to the point where we have made our team and we're ready to get out on the baseball filed here in the next week or so. We're all very excited."
U15 Killarney Lakers looking forward to big season on the diamond
Another season of ball is on the horizons and for the coach of the U15 Killarney Lakers, the excitement is there and he's ready to have the team hit the diamond.
"I think it's always exciting to get out there on the field," Tyler Shiels says with a smile. "It's been a long winter and the girls seem to be excited as well. We're going to have a pretty decent team this year and it's always fun to watch the talent rise on the field."
Today is opening day at Quarry Oaks
Today is the first day of the 2025 season for Quarry Oaks Golf Course and between every day golfers, big tournaments and special events, it's looking like another busy year at the course.
Mike Pittman, Business Development, Events and Marketing Manager, says things are looking quite good heading into the season. "We're always excited this time of year," he says with a smile. "We see a bunch of the members coming back, everyone is eager to hit the course, it's always happy times for us here."
Swift Current products advance to WHL Final Four
A clutch goal for a local product.
Swift Current's Hudson Darby scored the tying goal as his Portland Winterhawks advanced to the WHL Final Four.
Portland came back from down 2-1 to beat Everett 4-2 in Game 7 of their second round series.
Hudson and Griffin Darby are on the roster for the Winterhawks.
They'll play the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Conference final.
Meanwhile, Swift Current's Anthony Wilson and the Lethbridge Hurricanes play former Bronco Connor Hvidston and the Calgary Hitmen in another Game 7 tonight.
Weyburn gymnast Peyton Lokken training with Team Sask
The second gymnast in Weyburn's Airbourne Gymnastics Club has earned a spot on Team Saskatchewan for the upcoming Western Canadian Championships.
According to a press release issued by the club, Peyton Lokken is a dedicated athlete, who began her gymnastics journey at the age of six after attending a gymnastics birthday party.
Staying the course: local golf club opens up for first weekend of the season
The Portage Golf Club is seeing golf season in full swing already, as several patrons took to the course on Saturday to begin the new year.
General Manager Robby Moar says there were plenty of eager players ready to kick off the season over the weekend.
Weyburn Surge storms into finals, finishes second in province
The Sask Volleyball Provincial tournament was held through the weekend bringing teams from across the province.
From the Weyburn Volleyball Club, Weyburn Surge delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, finishing second in the Division 2 Championship and bringing home the silver medal.
Competing in Pool C, Weyburn Surge saw a strong start on Saturday claiming three straight set victories against the Eclipse Elite, Momentum Black, and Route 20 Renegades.
Cochrane High grad makes history with U.S. volleyball team
A Cochrane High graduate has just wrapped up a stellar volleyball season at an Illinois university.
In his third season with the Aurora University (AU) Spartans men’s volleyball team, Josh McLellan earned numerous honours and set new team records.
The six-foot-eight outside hitter was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Player of the Year and selected as a First-Team AVCA All-American — the first in AU program history.
Rebels acquire forward from Thunderbirds
Red Deer Rebels owner, president and general manager Brent Sutter announced that the club has completed a trade with the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Rebels have acquired forward Zane Torre from the Thunderbirds in exchange for a fourth-round pick at the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft (via Everett) and a conditional fourth-round pick at the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft.
Esso Awards end minor hockey season in Kindersley
Another season of Kindersley Minor Hockey is complete after last week's annual Esso Awards. Players from U7 to U18 joined players from the youth recreational program for the two-part awards night, U7, U9, and Rec starting the night, U11, U13, U15, and U18 players having their awards held after.
Awards for U7 and Rec included Most Team Spirited, Most Improved, and Most Dedicated. U9-U18 gave out those awards in addition to team MVP's, the U15 award named after Trent Kresse and the U18 award after Darren Uzelman, two past Kindersley hockey legends who are no longer with us.
