Track star Danica Penner talks running, records and more

It's been an incredible time for running sensation Danica Penner and the 12-year-old from the Blumenort area plans to keep on doing what she loves.

"I started doing cross-country in grade 5," Penner explains. "My mom had suggested that I should try it out because I was good at running. That first race I placed really, really well, so I figured that if it works out, why don't I just keep trying."

Wolverines make playoffs, play Moose Jaw on Saturday

The Swift Current Wolverines are back in the playoffs.

19 days since concluding their regular season, the Wolverines have had to scoreboard watch to see if they made the dance.

That watch concluded last night with Saskatoon falling 23-3 to Prince Albert.

Swift Current finishes a point ahead of the Swat for the third and final playoff spot in the junior Prairie Gold Lacrosse League.

The Lacoka Locos U17 team took home the league title as five of their players prepare to move up to junior lacrosse next season.

Head coach Zac Coubrough, who has coached many of the players since their U13 days, said it’s been rewarding to watch them grow.

DeSilva took long road to Swift Current

How does a 57-year-old from the small town of Ayr, Ontario wind up as a first time CHL head coach with the Swift Current Broncos?

It has been a long and interesting journey for Dean DeSilva.

"I've been involved in hockey my entire life," DeSilva said. "I've been skating since I was two years old. I've been playing since I was six years old. But I've never worked a day in hockey because if you love what you do it's not work.

57's host West Division leading Dawgs

The Swift Current 57's are still looking for consistency at the plate.

After getting hot on Tuesday in a 12-3 win over Moose Jaw, Regina silenced their hitters last night.

Swift Current only managed 6 hits and 1 run in 6-1 and 9-0 losses to the Red Sox in a doubleheader at Mitchell Field.

Now the 57's face a stiff test from the West Division leading Okotoks Dawgs tonight and tomorrow night.
