Broncos Brady Holtvogt named SJHL Rookie of the Week
Brady Holtvogt's strong start in his rookie season with the Humboldt Broncos earned the local product some recognition as he was named the IKS Media Rookie of the Week (Nov.4-10).
In his lone game last week, Holtvogt made 31 saves to help lead the Broncos to a 3-2 win over the Melville Millionaires on Saturday in Melville.
Wakaw loses in 2A six-man football final, St. Brieux wins 1A Bronze
The high school football season came to an end on Saturday, with provincial finals across Saskatchewan ranging from six-man, nine-man and twelve-man.
The Wakaw Warriors fell short in their attempt to win a provincial championship in 2A six-man football as they were defeated by the Clavet Cougars 90-51.
Saturday’s loss was the first for Wakaw this season, while Clavet capped off a perfect 2024 season winning six regular season games and three playoff contests.
Blue Bombers extinguish Roughriders championship dreams
There was progress made by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2024, but not enough to relish in championship glory, as the green and white’s season ended on Saturday with a 38-22 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris was 25/44 with 283 passing yards with a touchdown. Receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker had 12 catches for 162 receiving yards.
Broncos start home-and-home with Warriors
A mid-week opportunity to renew a WHL rivalry.
The Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors start a home-and-home tonight in Moose Jaw.
"They always play us had," said Broncos assistant coach Regan Darby. "The focus is just playing divisional games and making sure we can pull out a few points here."
Swift Current is 11-6 on the season and have won seven of their last eight games. That includes a 6-5 overtime win over the Warriors on October 19th.

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors face-off with a familiar foe to open the week at the Hangar.
The Warriors will welcome in the Swift Current Broncos to downtown Moose Jaw for the first half of a midweek home-and-home set between the two rivals.
“Sometimes we struggle with getting into the game early and with Swift, it’s usually not too hard,” Warriors forward Rilen Kovacevic said. “It will be nice to play them back-to-back and get things going right away.”
SWHL rundown
The Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) opened up their 25th anniversary season this past weekend, and the bingo card filled up quickly with some quirky and expected endings.
On Saturday night, the defending champion Kindersley Sr. Klippers opened up their season against the team they beat in the finals, the Wilkie Outlaws. The home team walked away with a solid 4-1 victory.
Weyburn's finest represent at U18 Women's Hockey Championships
The U18 Women’s National Championships wrapped up in Quispamsis, New Brunswick on the weekend, and Team Saskatchewan came away from the tournament with a fourth-place finish.
Saskatchewan played British Columbia in the bronze medal game on Saturday. Saskatchewan would take an early lead, but British Columbia rallied back to win the game 4-2. Kiah Shields, who is captain of the U18 AAA Weyburn Gold Wings, had a goal in the loss, with Weyburn’s Rayna Hennie also picking up a point.

The Winnipeg Jets have released a new calendar in hopes of helping a local pet rescue.
On Saturday, the Winnipeg Jets wives and girlfriends joined forces with D'Arcy's A.R.C (Animal Rescue Centre), a shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for stray and abandoned cats and dogs until a safe, permanent home is found, to sell 2025 Jets Pets calendars in the concourse of Canada Life Centre.

Two championships, one city: Airdrie’s football teams are on top
Airdrie's football programs are celebrating historic achievements. Earlier this month, the Airdrie Storm PeeWee and Airdrie Raiders Bantam football teams captured their respective Division One City Championships.
While the PeeWee Storm secured their second consecutive title, the Bantam Raiders made history with their first-ever Division One championship. The PeeWee Storm triumphed over the Calgary Stampeders with a commanding 52-7 victory, while the Bantam Raiders narrowly defeated the South Calgary Colts 47-46 in a thrilling game.
