Cougars defeat Goldeyes to win championship
The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ season came to an end Tuesday night, as the Kane County Cougars (7-0) completed the series sweep, winning 5-3 and capturing the Miles Wolff Cup as champions of the American Association.
Maroons take leave of absence from SEMHL ending team’s 72-year run
The Altona Maroons, a charter member of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League, will not put a team on the ice for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
It became official Tuesday night at the league’s fall meeting in Carman.
SEMHL commissioner Tom Vatrt informed the league executive and the 10 other teams that due to a lack of players, the Maroons would not be able to compete in season 73.
The team will take a one-year leave of absence, ending a streak of 72 years of senior hockey in Altona.

107.5 Bolt FM will be broadcasting four high school football games on air, showcasing some of the best young football players in the province.
Coverage begins on Thursday, September 19, in six-man football action as the Wakaw Warriors host the Shellbrook Aardvarks. Opening kickoff is 7:00. So far this season, Wakaw has opened with a pair of victories.

Gottselig humbled by hall of fame induction
The decision to take up basketball over football turned into a Hall of Fame career for Moose Jaw’s Troy Gottselig.
Gottselig was named one of five athletes and builders in the Class of 2024 for the Moose Jaw and District Sports Hall of Fame.
Basketball charity game supports youth programs
The Alex Tumang Charity Game organized by Sunday Hoops in conjunction with the newly formed nonprofit organization Fil-Can Hoops and Beyond Cochrane offered plenty of excitement while raising funds for youth programs in Philippines.
The $405 raised at the Sept. 14 charity game is being used to buy basketballs for youth in the Philippines by Fil-Can (Filipino-Canadian) Hoops and Beyond Cochrane. The organization was recently registered a new nonprofit organization with the goal of promoting health, camaraderie and support to the community.

Goaltender from Warren takes on NHL rookie camp
Hockey players from across the world are travelling to rookie camps for various NHL franchises, and several Manitobans are making the journeys.
Dawson Cowan, a goaltender from Warren, Manitoba, plays with the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Spokane Chiefs, and just recently was in southern California, taking part in the San Jose Sharks' rookie camp.
Cowan notes that the experience of camp has been a big learning experience for him.
Mohawk football recognizes alumni at this week's night game
Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawk football players from the past are welcome back to Glenn Hall Park this Friday night.
The current HCI Mohawks football team will host Delisle in the annual night game that will be played under the lights and serves as the program’s alumni game.
