Okotoks Dawgs drive in almost 60 runs over last 5 games

The Okotoks Dawgs have definitely found their groove over the last five games.

The Dawgs have pounded in 58 runs over the last five games, picking up five wins along the way and an astonishing 91 runs over the last seven games since their winning streak started.

The Dawgs lit up the scoreboard on Canada Day against the Brooks Bombers, beating them 15-4.  They both play each other again tonight, Wednesday at Seaman Stadium, before the Dawgs get a break before heading out on the road on Friday.

Rampage win medals at provincials

Some medals for the Swift Current Rampage at Box House Lacrosse Provincials.

The U15 Rampage won gold in the C Division Provincial Championship.

Hudson Klimm scored a hat trick as the Rampage beat Weyburn 6-3 in the championship game.

Jax Brown had 9 goals and 6 assists in 4 games for Swift Current.

Meanwhile, the U13 Rampage picked a bronze medal in the U13 C Division.

Luke Hudson had a hat trick in a 7-6 win over Moose Jaw to secure bronze.

Heat warning issued for Moose Jaw area

Daytime highs in the low 30's, humidex values driving the felt temperature closer to 36 degrees and little relief from the heat overnight have led Environment and Climate Change Canada to issue a heat warning for much of Southern Saskatchewan, including the Moose Jaw area today.

The warning is expected to persist until a cold front washes over the province tomorrow night.

In the interim, Environment Canada has some advice on how to deal with the rising temperatures:

Logan Gorst takes the Tommy Dorchester Championship in Ponoka on Canada Day

Logan Gorst won it all at the Ponoka Stampede on Canada Day.

The six-day event wrapped up with Logan Gorst winning by the narrowest of margins, with Chanse Vigen slipping into second place due to a one-second penalty for starting too early.

Vigen had the fastest times four out of the six days of racing and led the aggregate, with Gorst just qualifying in the semi-finals in 8th position. 

The semi-finals on Monday had the top eight drivers and wagons competing over two heats, with the final top four moving onto the championship heat on Canada Day.

Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, July 2

It was a Canada Day showdown last night at Ross Wells Park. The Moose Jaw Miller Express took on the Swift Current 57's, and despite a strong start in the first inning, fell 13–2.

The Millers are back in action tonight at Cairns Field, battling the Saskatoon Berries. Game time is 7 o'clock.

Over to the MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays have won three in a row following last night's 12–5 victory over the New York Yankees. They've got their eyes set on a tie for first place as they head into game two of four tonight at 5:07.

Dowling & Pederson find new homes in NHL free agency

A couple of former Swift Current Broncos are on the move.

Justin Dowling and Lane Pederson signed with new teams on the first day of NHL free agency.

Pederson signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers

It will pay him $775,000 when playing in the NHL.

Pederson had an injury riddled season with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors in 2024-25.

He had 12 points in only 18 games for the Edmonton Oilers' AHL affiliate.

Gould leaves WHL for school, Broncos lose 1st round pick

The new NCAA eligibility rules have cost the Swift Current Broncos a significant asset again.

After losing captain Clarke Caswell to the University of Denver earlier this off season, forward Rylan Gould has decided to head to school early.

The veteran had committed to play for Michigan Tech in 2026-27 so Swift Current had traded him to Everett for a 2026 1st round WHL Prospect Draft pick.

Lanigan's Kyler Lone & Reese Stroeder named HCAA Scholarship recipients

Lanigan Central High School’s Kyler Lone and Reese Stroeder have been named this year recipients of the 2025 Horizon Central Athletic Association scholarships.  

Kyler has been accepted into the Kinesiology and Education Combined Degree Program at the University of Saskatchewan and plans to become a teacher and a coach of high school athletics.
