The Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League (HTJHL) is gearing up for an exciting new season, following a successful showcase event held on Sunday in Niverville. The event, hosted at the Community Resource and Recreation Centre (CRRC), featured teams and players showcasing their skills. 

Pat Guenette, the commissioner of the HTJHL, expressed his gratitude for the hard work put in by the Niverville Clippers and their volunteers. 

A championship memory for four former Swift Current Comp Colts. 

Local stock car drivers, fans, and family headed to the Palliser Pavillion this past weekend for the Swift Current Stock Car Racing Association's wind-up and awards presentation. 

Doors opened at 4:30 p.m. for the event which included raffles, beverages, a live DJ, a plethora of awards, and a catered supper which began around 6:00 p.m.

Broden Berg, number 37 hobby stock driver, noted that they saw a good turnout with many smiling faces.

The Cochrane Generals are coming off a tough home stand, grabbing one of four possible points over the weekend.

Tied 1-1 after one period of play on Oct. 18, the Okotoks Bisons exploded with four unanswered goals in the second, then went into a defensive shell in the third to come away with a 6-1 win.

The lone Cochrane goal was the first for rookie Henry Pahl in a Gens jersey.

The Bisons have recaptured first place with a pair of important wins against the Gens and Medicine Hat Cubs over the weekend.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons find themselves tied for first spot in the HJHL's Southern Division after coming away with two wins over the weekend.

On Friday, the Herd was in Cochrane to face the Generals and took the game convincingly with a 6-1 win on the road.

Sam Callahan opened the scoring in the first period with Zephyr Laplante getting the assist. Henry Pahl tied the game up at one apiece 30 seconds later for the Generals' only goal of the game.

With the regular season coming to an end, the provincial playoff quarterfinal matchups are set for this Saturday.  

The Humboldt Mohawks advanced to provincials after picking up a victory over John Paul II (North Battleford). Humboldt will travel to Lumsden to meet the Devils on Saturday. 

Swift Current's U14 Steelers took on the Moose Jaw Mafia over the weekend to battle it out for fifth place in the Southwest Sports Excellence Bowl.

Yesterday afternoon, kick-off was at 3:00 p.m. for the final game of the season as the Steelers won't play again until next Labour Day. 

Despite Moose Jaw's 13 - 6 win over the Steelers, spirits were high all around and the autumn weather was ideal.

Tyson Congdon, head coach for the U14 Steelers, noted that everyone played well and the players put in their best effort.

The High River Flyers were in a good mood this weekend after discovering that the Bob Snodgrass Recreational Complex (BSRC) ice will be ready for their home opener on November 1.

The mood continued to shine as they came away with a point against the Medicine Hat Cubs who were at the top of the Southern Division in the HJHL. The Flyers pushed their only game of the weekend to overtime and fell just short in a 6-5 hockey game.

Kaiden Fulton made the start in net for High River, stopping 34 shots in the contest.

The U14 Estevan Oilers’ hopes of reaching the league finals were dashed by the Weyburn Falcons, who claimed a 20-7 victory in a hard-fought matchup. Despite the loss, the resilient Oilers fought until the final whistle, scoring in the last minute of the game to avoid a shutout.

The Falcons opened the scoring early with a seven-point lead and extended it to 20-0 heading into the final minutes. The Oilers managed to get on the scoreboard in the last 45 seconds, pushing hard to score seven points.

The Weyburn Beavers Baseball Club's 2025 season starts now, with a Community Open House coming to the Coast Hotel Board Room at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, October 23rd.

President of the club, Garnet Hansen, said all are welcome.

"We want as many people we can get out, so that's past sponsors, people looking at sponsorship opportunities, it's fans, it's parents, it's people involved in minor ball, it's everything Beavers baseball," he shared.
