Defence in hockey players' trial suggests complainant wanted 'wild night' with group

Defence lawyers for one of five hockey players accused of sexual assault suggested Tuesday the complainant asked him to call other players into a hotel room in June 2018 and later urged them to have sex with her.

David Humphrey, who represents Michael McLeod, suggested during cross-examination that the woman wanted to keep the night going after having sex with McLeod and told him to have some of his friends come to the London, Ont., hotel room "to have some fun" because she wanted a "wild night."

Portage youth soccer kicks off season with big turnout

The Portage Youth Soccer Association (PYSA) kicked off its season Monday night.

With more than 1,000 kids registered from Portage la Prairie and surrounding communities, fields at Rotary Republic Park were bustling with activity.

Mermaids finish competitive season with clean routine and top placements

The Estevan Mermaids Artistic Swimming Club wrapped up their competitive season on a high note at the Canadian Prairie Championships, held May 2–4 at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg. The athletes delivered some of their best performances of the year, competing against high-calibre artistic swimming clubs from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

ECS serves up strong results — set to host provincials

It was a strong showing for the Estevan Comprehensive School senior badminton team at Regionals this past weekend, with three teams earning podium finishes and securing their spots at provincials.

“We're pretty excited about our results,” said ECS senior badminton coach Sheena Summers. “Not that we weren’t expecting it — the kids have been working extremely hard. It’s just such a nice time for us, especially as hosts, to have athletes advancing to provincials.”
