Dyck brilliant, Broncos score three in the third in 4-1 win over Hitmen
Despite being outshot 31-16, the Swift Current Broncos would come away with a strong third period defeating the Calgary Hitmen 4-1 Wednesday night.
Both teams would get chances in the first period with power play but Calgary would take the shot total 13-1 in the first period but Reid Dyck (Winkler, MB) would stand tall on a ferocious Calgary power play with plenty of chances. But it would be a scoreless draw heading to the second.
Five Legionnaires make WHL Cup roster
Team Saskatchewan at the WHL Cup will have a pretty familiar look.
There will be five members of the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires suiting up in the showcase between the four western provinces later this month. The Legionnaire are sending more representatives than any other U18 AAA hockey club in the province.
They include Cade Mitchell of Gull Lake, Jake Hargrave of Lucky Lake, Carter Moen of Swift Current, Trae Peterson of Sturgis and Hunter Wilm of Central Butte.
Beginner pickleball event for adults to be hosted in Strathmore
A special pickleball session for youth in Strathmore was recently cancelled, but adult sessions are still available.
That's according to the town who says the beginner event will be held at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre on Tuesday (Oct. 15) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The sport of pickleball has seen a rise in the number of people wanting to play it.
In an interview with StrathmoreNow, Sheila McLeod, an administrator with the Strathmore Pickleball Club said the sport is gaining traction.
Colts drop semifinal to Central
A tough loss for the Swift Current Comp Colts in the MJHSAA soccer semifinal.
They fell 4-1 to Moose Jaw Central. The Cyclones had Swift Current's number this season as they also handed the Colts one of their two regular season losses.
Griffin Striker had Swift Current's lone goal.
The Colts went 4-2 in the regular season and now prepare for regionals.
Broncos host Hvidston's Hitmen
Only weeks after being traded from Swift Current to Calgary, Connor Hvidston is back at the InnovationPlex tonight as his Hitmen visit the Broncos.
Hvidston played 168 games over three seasons in Swift Current and was a draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks.
He requested a trade before this season and landed in Calgary where he has 7 points in his first 5 games.
‘I had hopes’: Degenstein breaks through for first WHL goal
Moose Jaw, Sask. – Noah Degenstein got a large monkey off his back over the weekend.
The Moose Jaw Warriors’ sophomore forward scored his first Western Hockey League goal on Friday in Lethbridge and then followed it up with his second goal on Saturday in Medicine Hat.
“It felt amazing, it almost felt surreal, I couldn’t even believe it,” Degenstein said. “It was pretty nice seeing my teammates come congratulate me, so it was a sweet feeling I’ll never forget.”
Cross country provincials at Dixon highlight School Sport Week
It’s School Sport Week, a time to celebrate the accomplishments of high school athletes and the dedication of the coaches and supporters who stand behind those efforts.
“Here in the Horizon Central Athletic Association, we have almost 50 schools that take part in school sport, and the percentage of students who are participants in extra-curricular sports is incredibly high,” says Brian Grest, Horizon School Division’s student activities director.
Eight Warriors crack NHL opening night rosters
Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors will have eight alumni suiting it up for teams in the National Hockey League to start the season.
Two NHL teams will have multiple former Warriors on their opening night rosters with Tanner Jeannot and Joel Edmundson suiting up for the Los Angeles Kings and Noah Gregor and Travis Hamonic set to lineup for the Ottawa Senators.
Jeannot and Edmundson are both in their first seasons with the Kings.
'Not being complacent': Bears hold 4-1 record after two nail-biting games
"Anytime that you can have four wins right off the bat, it definitely helps. I think the big thing now for us is not being complacent. We're not satisfied with a 4-1 record. We want to be better and I think the players want to be better. They see that we can go into every game and regardless who we're playing, expect to win every game -- that's the mindset that we've instilled now...we don't want to be complacent."
