Sports Round-Up: Wednesday, October 9

Moose Jaw's Triple "A" Winmar Warriors will take a 3 and 1 record into action tonight as they play the Notre Dame Hounds at Duncan McNeill Arena. Game time in Wilcox is 7:30.

Marek McIvor from the Moose Jaw Winmar AAA Warriors will be representing Team Saskatchewan at the 2024 WHL Cup. The Rosters were officially announced yesterday. The tournament, which runs from Oct. 23 to 27 in Red Deer, showcases the top 2009-born players in Western Canada. 

Regina Thunder roll into playoffs with two Moose Jaw athletes

The Regina Thunder have booked their ticket to the playoffs with the help of some Moose Jaw product.

This past Sunday the Regina Thunder locked up the second seed in the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) conference with a 40 - 21 victory over the Calgary Colts. Linebacker Devin Baumann (51) and practice squad slot receiver Carter Connolly (2) will be along for the ride as they prepare to host the Calgary Colts again in the PFC Semi-Final. 

Sports Update - Wednesday, October 9th

Steinbach Regional scored 14 points in the final five minutes and rallied for a 21-16 victory over the West Kildonan Wolverines at A.D. Penner Park. Owen Medeiros ran 27 yards for a touchdown to cut the Wolverines lead to 16-14. On West Kildonan's very next possession, Logan Toews recovered his own blocked punt in the end zone for the Sabres first special teams touchdown of the season. West Kildonan had a chance to win it late. With less than a minute remaining, the SRSS defense had a huge goal-line stand stuffing the Wolverines three rushing attempts from the one-yard line.

Sports Update - Wednesday, October 9th

The Provincial High School Cross Country Championships take place today in Clearwater hosted by Prairie Mountain High School. 1,100 runners are expected to compete in the junior varsity and varsity divisions. Miller girls & Morden boys won the Zone 4 varsity championship banners last week at Stephenfield Park. Sanford girls & Morden boys captured the junior varsity team titles.

Terriers dominate Freeze in 8-0 victory

The Portage Terriers’ offence came alive last night as they beat the Winnipeg Freeze 8-0 at the Hockey For All Centre in Winnipeg.

Chances came early and often for Portage as they outshot the Freeze 16-5 in the first period. Winnipeg goalie Braxton Burdeny played well and only let in one goal from Nolan Nenow. 1-0 Portage after 1.

The play opened up in the second period with three straight goals for the Terriers. Two from Cam Bullinger and one from Koy Funk. For Funk it was the first of his junior career. 4-0 Portage after 2.
