Multiple suspects arrested at Red Deer hotel

A pair of individuals were arrested at a north Red Deer hotel on April 1.

Red Deer RCMP were notified that an individual wanted on outstanding warrants was believed to be in the Red Deer area. 

Officers from the Red Deer RCMP General Investigations Unit (GIS) located the individual’s vehicle at a hotel located in north Red Deer. The Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) obtained a Feeney warrant to arrest the suspect.

Adam Zinger, 41, from Patricia, Alta., was arrested for outstanding warrants based out of Brooks.

2nd Annual Home Town Trade Show kicks off Friday in Sylvan Lake

The 2nd Annual Home Town Trade Show is taking place in Sylvan Lake at the NexSource Centre this Friday and Saturday (April 4 & 5).

The show will feature a wide variety of local businesses and organizations.

Attendees will also get to try their hand at axe-throwing!

Admission is free, however donations to the Sylvan Lake Food Bank are welcomed.

The event will run April 4 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and April 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Heartland Regional One-Act Festival to showcase local talent

The Heartland Regional One-Act Festival will take place this year in the Studio Theatre at Central Alberta Theatre’s Memorial Centre on April 11/12.

The annual theatre festival is presented by the Alberta Drama Festival Association and is a springboard for the Provincial One-Act Festival coming up later this spring.

The festival will host a preview performance on Friday, April 11, followed by the official adjudicated show on Saturday, April 12.

Wetaskiwin RCMP seeking assistance in locating missing 28-year-old

The Wetaskiwin RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in locating missing 28-year-old Jasmine Rain.

Jasmine was last in the area of Wetaskiwin on March 19, and is believed to have been trying to make her way to Edmonton.

There is concern for her well-being. 

Jasmine is described as:

· 5 feet 7 inches;

· Approximately 150 pounds;

· Black hair;

· Brown eyes;

Newly renovated Metals Building at Olds College prepares students for careers in Alberta’s skilled trades

The Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI) and its partners gathered on Tuesday, April 2, to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated Metals Building at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology.

The renovation modernizes the facility to accommodate up to 21 dual-credit CACI students per class, equipping them with industry-ready skills and preparing them for careers in Alberta’s skilled trades workforce.

In 2023, CACI announced it had been approved as one of the first collegiate programs in Alberta.

Blackfalds hosting 'Stuff a Bus' Food Drive this weekend in support of local food bank

Blackfalds residents are encouraged to support the local food bank by participating in the annual "Stuff a Bus" Food Drive on Saturday, April 5th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event aims to collect non-perishable food items for the Beyond Food Community Hub, the Blackfalds Food Bank, and Blackfalds Family & Community Support Services (FCSS).

School buses will be stationed at two locations in Blackfalds to receive donations:

Canadian Foodgrains Bank assisting with hunger crisis in Sudan

A spokesperson for Canadian Foodgrains Bank says they are very grateful for a recent funding announcement by our federal government. The Canadian government is providing a $4 million grant for Canadian Foodgrains Bank to address the growing hunger crisis in Sudan. 

According to Canadian Foodgrains Bank, nearly 25 million people in Sudan are facing acute hunger since the outbreak of civil war in April 2023. That makes up more than half the population. As many as 640,000 people are already experiencing famine-like conditions in five identified areas.

Freedom Convoy organizers Lich, Barber to hear verdict in mischief trial

Freedom Convoy organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber are set to hear a verdict today in the joint trial over their roles in the mass protest against pandemic health measures that rolled into Ottawa more than three years ago.

Lich and Barber were both charged with mischief, intimidation and counselling others to break the law in relation to their roles in the 2022 protest that drew thousands of demonstrators to Ottawa for three weeks.

Their trial wrapped up in September after hearing 45 days of evidence and legal arguments.
