Calving season going well in Saskatchewan as snow melts and producers prepare

With the weather warming and spring coming to the prairies, producers have been going through calving season with plenty of work for them. 

Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan Vice-President Chris Procyk says that, from what he's heard, it's been a decent season in the province.

Alberta Health Services halts plan to reduce patient food, drinks after pushback

The head of Alberta Health Services says the agency is halting a proposed food-reduction policy after public outcry over patients potentially being cut off from snacks and drinks.

The agency's interim president and CEO, Andre Tremblay, said the policy was set to go into effect Tuesday to change how food is stored and delivered in an effort to reduce waste -- not to deprive patients of food.

E-scooter operator sustains injuries after being hit by vehicle

An individual riding an e-scooter was injured Monday evening in Red Deer after being struck by a vehicle.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 77 St. and Gaetz Ave.

RCMP say the individual on the scooter failed to yield to a truck that was passing by at the time.

Police were unable to provide further details on the extent of the injuries.

 

RDPS moving forward with K-6 Social Studies curriculum implementation

With Alberta Education’s new K-6 Social Studies curriculum approaching, Red Deer Public Schools (RDPS) is welcoming a coordinator to support teachers and ensure a smooth transition in classrooms.  

In the role, Janene Baile will help deliver the new curriculum to teachers, develop educational resources, and ensure teachers have the tools they need to bring engaging, high-quality instruction to students while providing professional learning opportunities to enhance student learning.   

Summertime favourite event returning to Lacombe in June 

Music in the Park is back for the summer in Lacombe.   

Every Wednesday throughout the summer months, Lacombe and area residents can enjoy Music in the Park, featuring free live entertainment from local and regional musicians and bands.   

Event attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy the entertainment.   

Two students qualify for National Science Fair

Two Chinook’s Edge students have qualified for the national science fair, after both receiving gold medals at the Central Alberta Rotary Science Fair, held at Red Deer Polytechnic on March 29, 2025.

Claire Friesen, a Grade 9 student from Cremona School, received a gold medal and “Best of Fair” in the Grade 7 to 12 category, as well as an invitation to attend nationals. Her project is called “What goes up must come down.” This is Friesen’s third invitation to attend the national science fair.
