Student Art Exhibition and Competition highlighting the talent of local youth

Local students' artwork is now on display at Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC) for the Encore Art Sale Student Art Exhibition and Competition.  

This year, there are 48 pieces of art from junior and high school students in the Wolf Creek Public Schools division, ranging from pencil to metal sculpture, and everything in between.  

Missing woman found safe: Red Deer RCMP

Red Deer RCMP say that 29-year-old Danielle Lutz-Denechezhe has been located and is safe.

She was last seen in Red Deer on March 15, 2025.

There was concern for her well-being.

Central Alberta braces for impact of U.S. tariffs on auto industry

The Canadian auto industry is bracing for the impact of 25 per cent tariffs that U.S. President Donald Trump says will be imposed on fully assembled vehicles made outside the U.S. after April 2.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday that he will wait until after April 2 to respond to the tariffs.

While the immediate impact will be felt by the Canadian auto manufacturing industry, dealerships in Central Alberta are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Alberta Health Services claims fired CEO kept confidential emails, seeking injunction

Alberta's health authority is claiming its fired former executive breached her employment agreement by holding on to confidential emails with information pertaining to allegations in a high-profile court case.

A new affidavit filed Wednesday by Alberta Health Services says the agency is looking to amend its statement of defence in light of the emails, which the agency says it only became aware of last week. 

Final design approved for Lacombe's Woodland Sanctuary

Lacombe City Council approved the final design for the Woodland Sanctuary, St. Andrew’s United Church’s Tree Project, during the March 24 regular meeting.  

The City of Lacombe and United Church have collaborated to transform a 1.7-acre municipal reserve on the west end of Woodland Drive into a natural forest ecosystem with 100 native trees, shrubs, and native flowering perennials.   

Measles Returns to Central Alberta

With the weather switching rapidly from sunny to cold, it's common to hear a few sniffles and coughs due to temperature changes and seasonal allergies. 

However, Albertans now have to be prepared for the germs that bring measles, as cases have been popping up across the province since March 13, when provincial officials confirmed a single household infection involving six individuals. 

Young entrepreneurs shine at Penhold Elementary School’s Maker’s Market

Creativity and entrepreneurship is alive and well at Penhold Elementary School. The school’s second annual Makers Market was a big success.

Students who wish to participate created their own product to sell, decided what price they’d put on their goods, and how they would display them.

On two parent teacher interview evenings last week, the students were set up at tables in the gymnasium. Interested parents and community members were invited to tour through and shop in the market. Students were able to keep their own profits.

Central Alberta voters are being reminded of some changes which will impact the upcoming April 28 federal election.

Across the province, the number of ridings is increasing from 34 to 37.

The boundaries have changed for all of the ridings, with the exception of Lethbridge.

"It's important that people know what electoral district they will be voting in," said Leanne Nyirfa, spokesperson for Elections Canada.

Central Alberta company awarded $6.98M contract for Arctic radar project

Technalogix, based in Red Deer, has been awarded a $6.98-million subcontract by the Government of Canada for the Polar Over-the-Horizon Radar (POTHR) Phase 4. 

The $48.4-million contract was initially awarded to Atco Inuvialuit Frontec Services Ltd. in Calgary, which subcontracted a portion to Technalogix.
