RCMP are continuing to search for Jan-Anne August, who is wanted for various crimes.

August's last known location is unknown.

Her areas of activity include Clairmont, Calgary, Foothills County, Munson, Bragg Creek, Kneehill County, Enchant, Lethbridge County, Lethbridge, Taber, Vulcan, Olds, Alternate, Vulcan County, Strathmore, Grande Prairie, and the County of Newell.

Do not approach August if you spot her.

The Red Deer Food Bank is now growing fresh produce indoors thanks to a new hydroponic growing system.

Through a $75,000 grant from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a hydroponic sea can was purchased to grow fresh produce to support the food bank’s hamper program.

Previously, the food bank received limited amounts of fresh produce from grocery partners, making it difficult to provide enough to meet client demand.

On March 19, the Wetaskiwin RCMP reported that a missing 61-year-old resident of Wetaskiwin was located safe.

Johnathan Chadwich Cochran was reported missing on March 15.

He was last seen on March 10, walking from his home in Wetaskiwin around 9 p.m.

The Wetaskiwin RCMP were concerned for his well-being.

The Vanberg Cup Finals resume Friday night as the Innisfail Eagles welcome the Lacombe Generals for Game 4 of the North Central Senior AA Hockey League Championship.

The Eagles lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Innisfail jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the series, but Lacombe was able to fight back with a 4-3 win Sunday at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.

The Red Deer U15 AAA Rebels are proud to host the 2025 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships, for the U15 AAA division.  

The tournament starts on Thursday, March 20th, and continues through Sunday, March 23rd. Games will be played at the Servus Arena in Red Deer.  

Five teams, including the host Red Deer Rebels, will participate in the provincial championships. They will vie for a spot in the gold medal final on Sunday and a chance to win the provincial crown.  

The RDP Queens won gold at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track Championships. Also, the Kings Indoor Track team picked up bronze in Edmonton.

The Queens Hockey team solidified ACAC silver while the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team captured a two games to one lead in the best-of-five ACAC Men’s Hockey Championship Final.

Red Deer's home sales are off to a hot start this year.

According to the latest Market Update from Central Alberta Realtors Association (CARA), sales are up month-to-month and have also risen compared to last year.

There were 130 units sold in February 2025, an increase of 34 from January 2025. Red Deer saw 110 units sold in February 2024.

New listings for Red Deer were at 145 for February 2025, with total inventory at 172, which is down 33 per cent from last year.

National Impaired Driving Prevention Week runs from March 16-22 and is a reminder to Albertans of the consequences of impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs, fatigue, or distraction.

Sylvan Lake RCMP is reminding residents that all ice fishing shelters must be removed from Sylvan Lake by March 31.

People are encouraged to clean up any wood, garbage, or debris left behind in order to prevent any hazards as the ice melts and to keep the lake beautiful and clean for everyone. 

Always check ice conditions before heading out for clean-up duty.

Burman University will be hosting its first-ever Lifestyle Medicine and Flourishing Symposium in early May.

Dr. Pekka Maattanen, is an associate professor and Chair of Biology at Burman University.

"We're having a really special event to emphasize lifestyle medicine," he said. "Basically, the first president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine will be coming to Lacombe and the event is really to emphasize the power of lifestyle medicine to both prevent, treat and even possibly reverse important chronic diseases that are a major issue in Canada."
