RDP Kings Volleyball team wins gold
Another medal winning week for RDP Athletics as the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball Kings won gold at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship. Colby Nemeth was named CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship MVP.
In addition to the Kings Volleyball team earning CCAA gold and the Queens Hockey squad picking up a win in the finals, the RDP Kings Futsal team solidified ACAC bronze and the Kings Hockey team advanced to the ACAC Championship Final.
Trump says Canada will pay 'financial price' as he doubles tariffs on steel, aluminum
U.S. President Donald Trump said Canada will pay a "financial price" after vowing Tuesday to double the tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum imports in response to Ontario's surcharge on electricity exports to the United States.
"They will pay a financial price for this so big that it will be read about in History Books for many years to come!" Trump posted on social media.
RCMP warn of unstable ice after fishing structure breaks through on Southern Alberta lake
Central Alberta residents are urged to stay off unstable ice as temperatures fluctuate, creating hazardous conditions on lakes, rivers, and stormwater ponds.
The warning comes after Nanton RCMP responded to an incident on Sunday at Chain Lakes Reservoir, where an ice fishing structure broke through the ice.
A vehicle carrying several people was on the same section of ice, attempting to recover the structure.
Dress for Success launches Mia's Closet; King Charles III Medals awarded

The event included the launch of a new program supporting women and children.

Red Deer City Council affirms confidence in Emergency Services leadership following union's non-confidence vote
Red Deer City Council affirmed its full confidence in Emergency Services Chief Ken McMullen, Deputy Chief Tyler Pelke, Deputy Chief Curtis Schaefer, Deputy Chief Chris Kearns and the leadership team within Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES), passing a formal resolution at Monday's regular Council meeting.
Red Deer building permit values rise in February
Red Deer building permit values increased in February, with 49 issued permits valued at $6 million, compared with 69 permits worth $4.87 million in February 2024.
Year-to-date permit values are up significantly, with 73 permits valued at $4.3 million, compared with 92 permits worth $2.3 million in 2024.

Alberta, nurses union reach four-year tentative agreement
A union representing more than 30,000 nurses in Alberta has reached a four-year tentative agreement with the province after six weeks of formal mediation.
United Nurses of Alberta says the agreement will significantly improve wages, including an immediate hike of about 15 per cent for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses.
Formal mediation began in January after workers voted in October 2024 to reject recommendations that had been reached through informal mediation.
