Concerns about trade, defence as MPs, diplomats eye U.S. vote results
MPs, diplomats and political staff gathered around the parliamentary precinct to anxiously take in preliminary results of a U.S. presidential election that they all agreed would have an enormous impact on Canada and the world.
"There's a lot of nervous energy in the room tonight," said Gary Keller, who was chief of staff to John Baird, the former Conservative foreign minister.
"This one has so much potential impact on our economy, our society."
Firearms seized from Montana First Nation residence
On Nov. 5, after an ongoing investigation into firearms at a residence, Maskwacis RCMP obtained a search warrant at a known property in Montana First Nation.
During the search officers seized:
- high powered rifles;
- a handgun;
- ammunition and other dangerous weapons.
The investigation is still ongoing, and charges have yet to be laid.
Police are actively investigating the firearms that were seized.
Suspect flees traffic stop for reckless driving in stolen vehicle
On Nov. 2, around 5 p.m., the Drayton Valley RCMP attempted a traffic stop for dangerous driving on Highway 620 in Brazeau County, but the suspect fled.
The vehicle was reported to have been stolen and was seen by witnesses tailgating and driving at excess speeds of 150 km/hr.
During the investigation, the vehicle was abandoned, and the driver was seen attempting to flee from officers into a wooded area.
Suspect nabbed for Tim Hortons break and enter spree
On Oct. 31, the RCMP Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), assisted by RCMP Regina General Investigation Section, arrested 25-year-old Joshua Elliot Moose of Medicine Hat.
Moose was arrested after a five-month long investigation into a series of break and enters into Tim Hortons restaurants across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Wetaskiwin RCMP seek public assistance in identifying road rage suspect
On Nov. 2 at 4:23 p.m., the Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of an assault that just occurred on 3 Avenue in the Village of Hay Lakes.
Police and EMS assisted victims with several significant injuries.
Investigation revealed that a group of individuals pulled up to a home, and were approached by vehicle and a driver who confronted them on their driving.
The suspect exited his vehicle and a physical altercation took place with punches thrown and one individual dragged alongside the suspect vehicle.
How much snow fell in the last 24 hours?
It was a hazardous morning commute following the wet heavy snow that fell last night into this morning.
Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shelley commented on how much snow hit the region.
"Based on our sensors it looks like about five to six centimetres fell within the Lacombe to Red Deer corridor between overnight last night and this morning. The good news is that it probably won't stick around very long as we have a warm-up coming up in the next couple of days."
Red Deer RCMP conducting training today, expect heavy police presence
Red Deerians can expect heavy police presence in neighbourhoods tomorrow (Nov. 6) as the Red Deer RCMP conduct training exercises.
From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., officers will undergo training in the Inglewood and Vanier neighbourhoods in Red Deer.
Police Dog Services, General Duty officers, Emergency Response Team, and Remote Pilot Aircraft Systems will all be taking part in the training exercises.
Have you switched to winter tires yet?
With snow hitting parts of Central Alberta this week, many people have been switching over to winter tires.
Pat Calon is the owner of Calridge Automotive Repair in Red Deer.
He talked about the best time to make the change.
"Typically, it's between Thanksgiving and Easter or above or below (-)7 degrees celsius. So when you can see your breath, that's the time to start putting them on."
Wintery weather results in multiple vehicle collisions
Snowfall overnight and early Tuesday morning resulted in slick roads throughout Central Alberta.
Multiple vehicle collisions are being reported, including one involving a school bus which was lit on fire.
At 8:40 a.m. Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 2A at Township Road 402.
Police, Fire, and EMS attended to the scene.
At least one person was injured.
Update: Special needs school bus catches fire following multi-vehicle collision, no children on board
At 7:50 a.m. Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a three-vehicle collision involving an Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre school bus on Highway 2A at Township Road 400 between Lacombe and Blackfalds.
RCMP say the collision was at an intersection and that the bus caught on fire and was destroyed. There were no children on the bus.
Police, Fire, and EMS attended the scene.
RCMP say one vehicle had pulled out from a crossing and was struck in the side by an oncoming vehicle. Snow and ice prevented the vehicle from stopping in time.
