Olds RCMP charge male for child pornography offences
On June 3, 2025, at around 9:30 a.m., Olds RCMP, with the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), arrested an Olds resident for child pornography offences.
With the assistance of ICE, Olds RCMP launched an investigation in late May of 2025. On June 3, Olds RCMP and ICE executed a search warrant at an Olds residence. As a result, Charles Landon (48), was arrested and charged with the following:

Watchdog investigating police shooting in Calgary, one man sent to hospital
A man is in hospital following a police shooting in Calgary.
Police say officers were patrolling an industrial area in the city's southeast, when a passenger in a vehicle pointed what was believed to be a handgun at them.
The canine unit and other officers were called, and the vehicle was stopped.
Police say a man fled from the vehicle, there was a confrontation with officers, and an officer fired a gun.
The man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but was upgraded to stable.
Friday at the Park Market kicks off today in Lacombe
The "Friday at the Park Market" begins today at Michener Park and will take place every Friday until Sept. 5, between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The market is going into its fourth season this year, and coordinator Joanne Ward says they’re ready to go.
“We have a real eclectic group of vendors, so you’ll find everything from food to fresh produce. Fresh fruit is coming at the end of the month, and so much more for families,” says Ward.
Heads up, drivers: lane closures and delays hit HWY-42 near Penhold
Drivers traveling along Highway 42 near the junction with Queen Elizabeth II Highway (Hwy-2) should prepare for ongoing delays and traffic disruptions due to extensive construction work scheduled to continue through the summer months.
Construction begins today and is expected to run until September with crews working daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., including weekends.
The project is taking place west of Hwy-2 near Penhold, and involves a series of activities including lane closures, speed reductions, and an on-site detour.
Central Alberta Children’s Festival returns for 19th year in Red Deer
The Central Alberta Children’s Festival is back for its 19th year, bringing two full days of family-friendly fun to Recreation Centre Park in Red Deer.

New federal bill aims to improve labour mobility, eliminate internal trade barriers
The Liberal government has introduced legislation aimed at cutting down barriers to internal trade by recognizing provincial and territorial rules at the federal level.
Officials who briefed reporters this morning say the goal is to reduce the number of redundant standards across the country.
They say that, for example, a company that produces washing machines that meet a provincial energy efficiency standard won't have to meet a separate federal standard to sell outside that province.
