Highway 11 west of Sylvan Lake reopened after afternoon crash
Sylvan Lake RCMP are now saying that two Rocky Mountain House residents were killed in Monday's crash.
Late Monday night they were advising that Highway 11 at Range Road 35 had reopened. The collision scene had been cleared and normal traffic has resumed.
Just before 2:30 pm Monday, April 28th emergency crews were called to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 11 near Range Road 35.
Both Eastbound and Westbound lanes were closed near Hespero and west of Eckville. There was a detour on site.
Sylvan Lake RCMP were on scene for over seven hours investigating.
Work begins on Bentley Recreational Field Project
Construction on the Bentley Recreational Field Project, has started today.
The field will be located to the North of 55th Ave and 46th Street on Town owned lands.
Work will initially include some tree clearing and earthworks undertaken by Lacombe County. Rough grading etc. will be undertaken by Lacombe County and finishing work and amenities will be tendered in the upcoming weeks, while this work is being undertaken.
Governments extend AgriStability enrolment deadline for 2025 program year
Given the pressures and uncertainties facing the agricultural sector, federal, provincial and territorial governments have agreed to extend the AgriStability enrolment deadline from April 30, 2025, to July 31, 2025, for the 2025 program year.
AgriStability is a margin-based program designed to help producers manage large income declines.
This extension gives producers additional time to consider their needs and manage the impact of challenges faced by many farm operations, such as production loss, increased costs and changing market conditions.
Fire Restriction in effect for Red Deer County
As of 2 p.m. today, a restricted fire order is in effect for all of Red Deer County.
The County requires that:
- All outdoor fires presently burning within Red Deer County whether set with permission or under permit of the County, will remain valid for the duration of the permit
- The ignition of all new outdoor fires within the boundaries of Red Deer County are hereby prohibited
- No new fire permits will be issued.

Conservative candidates win big in Monday's Federal Election
Both Conservative Party candidates have won their respective ridings in Central Alberta after Monday night's Federal Election.
Blaine Calkins, the incumbent Conservative Party candidate and current Member of Parliament has won the Ponoka-Didsbury riding.
Calkins won the election Monday with a large show of support from his constituents. He once again received popular support from the traditionally Conservative area of Central Alberta.
Bridge washing on QEII south of Ponoka
There is bridge washing on northbound QEII At Township Road 425 south of Ponoka expected to go from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Drivers should reduce speed to 80km/h in the area and expect lane closure.

Bridge washing east of Lacombe
There will be a bridge washing today at Highway 50 at the junction of Highway 12 east of Lacombe expected from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Drivers should expect one lane alternating traffic and reduce speed to 50km/h in the area.

Chinook Edge School Division (CESD) has cut funding to the Penhold & District Library, meaning a six per cent budget reduction for the book haven.
The end of the longtime partnership might also see a wall constructed between Penhold Crossing Secondary School and the public library.
