'Tragedy all around': Murder charges follow Vancouver festival attack that killed 11

Charges have been laid against a man who's accused of racing a vehicle through a crowded street at a Filipino community festival in Vancouver, killing 11 in an attack the interim police chief called the "darkest day" in the city's history.

Vancouver Police said in a statement Sunday that Kai-Ji Adam Lo faces eight counts of second-degree murder and further charges are anticipated.

Const. Tania Visintin said some victims remained unidentified.

British Columbia's Court Services Online says Adam Kai-Ji Lo faces eight counts of murder.

Former prime minister Jean Chrétien predicted the Liberals will win a majority government on Monday, as party leaders blitzed key ridings in Ontario and British Columbia hoping to swing last minute votes their way.

Diamond Valley firefighters respond to two wildland fires in one day

There's no denying that wildfire season has arrived in Alberta, with fire crews across the Foothills being kept busy in recent weeks.

The latest outdoor fire responses were from Diamond Valley Fire Rescue on Thursday, April 24.

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, Diamond Valley crews responded to two separate fires on the same afternoon.

Over 26,309 votes cast in the Foothills during advance polling

Elections Canada has released advance polling numbers from each electoral district in Canada.

An estimated 7.3 million Canadians voted in advance polls from April 18 to 21, a 25 per cent increase over the 2021 election.

Of those, 815,131 early votes were cast in Alberta.

The Foothills riding saw 26,309 advance votes cast.

Neighbouring ridings saw similar turnout, with 21,974 in Bow River, 17,291 in Lethbridge, and 17,144 in Medicine Hat—Cardston—Warner.
