A teenager reported missing earlier this week in Airdrie has been found safe, RCMP said Thursday.

Court denies motion to limit careless driving charge in Beiseker crash
A truck driver ticketed after a four-vehicle crash near Beiseker has lost a bid to limit the careless driving charge he faces to a single issue — whether he failed to use a pilot car.

Important busing deadline looms for Rocky View Schools families
Families must register for school bus transportation by Friday Aug. 1 to guarantee service on the first day of school, Rocky View Schools (RVS) said in a statement issued July 17.
“We strive to ensure a smooth first day of school for our riders, their families and our drivers,” said Morley Kostecky, RVS Senior Manager of Transportation. “Registering punctually for transportation ensures all riders are assigned a bus route and bus stop in time for the beginning of the school year.”
Airdrie RCMP issues warning over imitation firearms
Airdrie RCMP is warning the public about the dangers and legal consequences associated with air guns, airsoft guns, and imitation firearms.
In a news release issued Wednesday, the detachment said these items are often marketed as recreational or hobby equipment but can pose serious risks—especially when displayed or used in public.
“Air guns are not toys,” the release stated. “If carried or displayed in public, they can easily be mistaken for real firearms—leading to serious police response and possible criminal charges.”
Veterans crosswalk now complete in front of Airdrie Legion
The first of Airdrie’s two planned veterans crosswalks is now complete, with a newly painted tribute installed in front of the Airdrie Legion on 1st Avenue NE.
The red-and-white painted crosswalk features a silhouette of a soldier and the phrase Lest We Forget, in a design similar to those first introduced in Cochrane in 2024.
The Veterans Crosswalks are part of a broader installation unveiled this month along Veterans Boulevard. The City confirmed completion of the boulevard memorial in a July 21 release.
Airdrie population almost doubles in provincial projection by 2051
The provincial government is predicting that Alberta will add around 2 million more residents over the next 27 years.
They believe the population will reach 6.9 million by 2051, an average growth of 1.3 per cent. Alberta currently has a population around 4.85 million.
"The majority of the expected growth will be due to migration, with 63 per cent coming from international migration and 21 per cent from interprovincial migration. Natural increase is projected to account for the remaining 16 per cent of the growth."

There are fewer than two months left for those who want to run for Airdrie Council or Mayor to file their papers.
Nomination packages must be filed by noon on Sept. 22. Election day is October. 20.

Judge to rule on bail for 3 charged in alleged plot to seize land near Quebec City
A judge is scheduled to rule today on whether to grant bail to three men facing terrorism charges in an alleged plot to forcibly seize land in the Quebec City area.
Quebec court Judge René de la Sablonnière heard evidence and arguments over three days.
Simon Angers-Audet, 24, Raphaël Lagacé, 25, and Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, face charges of facilitating a terrorist activity, and other charges related to the illegal storage of firearms and possession of explosives and prohibited devices.
Prime Minister Carney says Canada will recognize a Palestinian state
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday that Canada intends to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September, as long as the Palestinian Authority holds elections next year.
"Preserving a two-state solution means standing with all people who choose peace over violence or terrorism. And it means honouring their innate desire for peaceful coexistence," Carney told reporters on Parliament Hill.
He said Ottawa intends to officially recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.
Update: Airdrie RCMP searching for missing 14-year-old boy
RCMP say a 14-year-old boy who was reported missing in Airdrie has been located safe. The youth had last been seen on July 29.
Mounties issued a public appeal for assistance Wednesday evening.
No further details were released.
