Later spraying may help with DON - Agronomists change their advice as to when to spray for fusarium infection

WINNIPEG — Wheat growers in North Dakota have altered how they use fungicides to control fusarium head blight.

Many farmers now apply fungicides later, after flowers first appear on wheat heads, to cut the risk of fusarium damaged kernels (FDK) and reduce levels of deoxynivalenol (DON) in cereals.

Western Canadian farmers should make a similar switch, says a plant pathologist with Agriculture Canada in Alberta.

Right now, some agronomists and grower groups say the ideal fungicide timing starts when 75 per cent of wheat heads are fully emerged.

Ryan Huska named to Team Canada staff for Men’s Worlds -- and he’s not the only local

Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska will serve as an assistant coach for Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Hockey Canada announced Wednesday.

The tournament runs May 9–25 in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark. Huska joins a national staff that includes head coach Dean Evason, Andrew Brunette, and Steve McCarthy behind the bench, with Calgary and Airdrie also represented on the support side.

Didsbury receives donation to help house Wynonna Earp props

The Town of Didsbury has received a $4,000 donation earmarked to help the economic development staff find a permanent location for the town’s collection of Wynonna Earp props.

The town is currently trying to figure out what to do with a large collection of movie props that it has amassed over the past year. A number of the props are from Wynona Earp.

Rhonda Hunter, the Mayor of Didsbury, explained that it was the Earptopia Fan Club that donated.
