UPDATE: Power outage affecting Airdrie and Rocky View County

A power outage that was affecting many Airdronians and Rocky View County residents has been resolved.

According to the FortisAlberta outage map, 3 outages were affecting 2914 customers.

Key agriculture voices returning to Parliament

The Liberals have won their fourth mandate this time under the leadership of leader Mark Carney.

When Mark Carney formed government as Canada's 24th Prime Minister on March 14, 2025, he selected 34-year-old Kody Blois from the Kings-Hants riding in Nova Scotia as the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Rural Economic Development.

Blois is heading back to Parliament after winning his riding last night. Expectations are that Carney could keep him in that role, but that will be determined when he announces his new cabinet in the days ahead.

Richards wins again in Airdrie–Cochrane; local leaders urge Ottawa to fund infrastructure

With incumbent Conservative MP Blake Richards winning re-election Monday night in Airdrie–Cochrane, local leaders called on Ottawa to deliver urgently needed infrastructure and economic support.

Richards secured a wide margin locally as the Liberal Party, under Mark Carney's leadership, appeared poised to form a minority government nationally, based on preliminary results as of Tuesday morning.

Brown and Aalhus spoke Monday while polls were still open. Their interviews were conducted before the results were known.

After federal vote, Smith tells Ottawa: ‘We will no longer tolerate being landlocked’

 

Premier Danielle Smith warned Tuesday that Alberta “will no longer tolerate” federal interference in its resource sector, escalating tensions with the federal government as preliminary results showed the Liberal Party leading in 168 of 343 ridings in Monday’s federal election.

Poilievre loses his long-held seat in Ottawa

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will not have a seat in the next Parliament, after a stunning upset by Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy in the riding of Carleton. 

Poilievre's loss raises a host of questions about his ability to continue with the Conservative party leadership, and the role he will play as the House of Commons reconvenes. 

In his concession speech on election night, Poilievre pledged that Conservatives will "do our constitutional duty of holding government to account and proposing better alternatives." 

Area man scratches $5 ticket, finds $100K — thanks, Mom

A Cochrane man is $100,000 richer after a birthday gift from his mother turned into a top prize winner.

Gregory Foley said he was in shock after scratching a $5 CROSSWORD BEE LUCKY Scratch & Win ticket and discovering he’d won the game’s $100,000 top prize.

"I scratched the ticket and saw the win," Foley said in a statement released by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. "I was in shock! It still feels surreal!"

Blake Richards on riding win: 'It never stops being an honour'

Airdronian Blake Richards is excited to be back as Airdrie's Member of Parliament for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding.

As of last night, Richards was projected to win the local riding. He had 21,643 votes (72.4 percent), and 138 of the 210 polling stations reported.

Richards is thankful to have been elected to serve his riding again.

"It never stops being an honour to know that people have put their trust in you to be their representative, and it's not something I take lightly, and I'll continue to work with everything I have at that job."

Airdrie marks 74th anniversary of Battle of Gapyeong

On Saturday, the Royal Canadian Legion Airdrie-Branch #288, along with the Calgary Korean Association, held their annual memorial service to remember the victory of the Battle of Gapyeong.

The event was to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the battle and was held at the new monument just west of the Town and Country Centre.

Keith Shaw, the past president of the Airdrie Legion, explained it was nice to see 50 residents come out and show their support.

"It means a lot to us as legion members. It also means a lot to the Korean Association in Calgary.

Didsbury sets 2025 budget and tax rates

At its April 22, 2025, Regular Meeting, Didsbury Town Council approved the 2025 Tax Rate Bylaw.

According to the town, each year, the Town Council approves the budget needed to support Town services.

"To get the amount of revenues required from property taxes, the Town takes the overall expenditure and subtracts all other sources of revenue; the balance is the amount to be raised through municipal property taxes. Council approved a $13.7 million 2025 Operating Budget on March 26, 2025, with the tax-funded portion totalling $5.4 million."

Liberals win 4th mandate as NDP vote collapses and Singh announces he will resign

Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to unite the country and govern for all after Canadians handed the Liberals a fourth consecutive mandate in Monday's federal election.

"Who is ready," he shouted to cheers and applause and people chanting his name in a crowded hockey arena in Ottawa in the wee hours of the morning. "Who is ready? Who is ready to stand up for Canada with me? And who is ready to build Canada strong?"
