Tough competition in the show ring for the Western Dairy Expo and 1st Annual Legends of the Industry Awards handed out

The Western Dairy Expo wrapped up Saturday in Saskatoon. 

This year's event featured 200 Holstein and about 60 Jersey cows and heifers and was judged by Paul Trapp a product acquisition specialist with Semex USA out of Wisconsin, and his associate judge Jon Larson.

Airdrie RCMP: Missing man last seen in Acme found safe

Airdrie RCMP say a man who had been the subject of a missing person appeal has been located safe. Mounties issued a public request for assistance on Saturday after the man was last seen in Acme on April 23.

Richard Le sent a text to his 16-year-old son on Saturday at about 8 p.m., saying the rest of the family would be leaving the Lapu Lapu Day festival shortly. Instead, Richard, his wife Linh Hoang and their five-year-old daughter Katie were run down moments after the text was sent, Richard's brother, Toan, said Monday.

Police and witnesses have said a black SUV raced down a street lined with food trucks, scattering people in its wake, killing 11 and injuring dozens of others, some of whom remain in hospital in critical or serious condition. 

Research shows multi-species cover crops enhance soil health

Multi-species cover crops are proving to be a valuable tool in improving soil health and boosting farm productivity, according to ongoing research led by Dr. Bharat Shrestha at Beaverlodge Research Farm. Dr. Shrestha, the biology study lead in soil health and fertility development, is part of a collaborative project under the Peace River Living Lab initiative, funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Agricultural Climate Solutions - Living Lab program.

Dry, windy conditions trigger another fire advisory near Airdrie

On Monday afternoon, Wheatland County declared a fire advisory was in effect for the area. A social media post by the county noted that the advisory was due to dry, warm, and windy conditions.⁣

"All fire and fireworks permits are suspended until further notice.⁣ Approved activities such as gas or propane stoves, CSA-approved fire pits, and household fireplaces are still permitted," the post stated, adding that residents should exercise caution.

"The risk of fire spread is very high in dry grass areas.⁣"

Update: Ponoka–Didsbury federal election results: Live updates

As of 9:42 p.m., incumbent Conservative candidate Blaine Calkins was leading Ponoka—Didsbury riding with 35,001 votes (82.4 per cent) and 165 of 216 of the polling stations reporting. It is projected that Calkins will win the riding. 

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., and preliminary results will be updated throughout the evening.

A little before 8:30 (MST), The Canadian Press decision desk projects that the Liberal Party of Canada under Mark Carney will form the next government. 

Update: Yellowhead federal election results: Live updates

As of 10:21 p.m., Conservative candidate William Stevenson was leading the Yellowhead riding with 26,974 votes (75 per cent) and 130 of 252 of the polling stations reporting. It is projected that Stevenson will win the riding. 

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., and preliminary results will be updated throughout the evening and in the morning.

Update: Battle River–Crowfoot federal election results: Live updates

On Friday, May 2, The Canadian Press reported that the Conservative Party winner of the riding, Damien Kurek, had announced his intention to step aside to allow Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to run in a byelection in the Battle River—Crowfoot riding.

As of 10:13 p.m., Conservative candidate Damien Kurek was leading the Battle River - Crowfoot riding with 25,211 votes (81.4 per cent) and 145 of 278 of the polling stations reporting. It is projected that Kurek will win the riding.
