Could be a big weekend for Broncos Matthew Van Blaricom at the NHL Draft
This weekend, many hockey players will see their dreams come true when they hear their name called at the National Hockey League (NHL) Draft and that includes one member of the Humboldt Broncos, Matthew Van Blaricom.
The draft gets underway on Friday night with the first round taking place inside of the Sphere in Las Vegas. The first 32 selections will be made on the opening night.
City Council explores possibility of new housing units
With a growing community like Humboldt, the need for housing will always be present.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, the first readings were given to a pair of rezoning bylaw changes that could potentially allow for new housing units to be developed.
The first spot is the parcels of land in the southeast corner of the city by 101st St and Saskatchewan Ave, that are currently listed as acreage residences, but that site has been identified as a location that could potentially see the creation of housing that may include street townhouses.
Charolais breeders from around the world visit Canadian farms and ranches as part of the World Charolais Congress event
Charolais breeders from around the globe are in Canada for the World Charolais Congress.
The last time the World Congress was in Canada was in 2006 when it was held in Alberta.
Helge By, President of Charolais Charbray International says this year they wanted to show their International visitors more of Canada, and a chance to see the breed on farm by visiting more producer operations.
Weekend Update: Summer Sizzler is on!
The Summer Sizzler is back!
The popular midway will run Friday from 3-10 pm and wrap up on Saturday 12-10 pm.
On Friday, Houligan Acres will be on site with a petting zoo.
Finishing off the Sizzler with be a jammed packed day of activities with a mixture of Sizzler and Canada Day traditions. The day begins with a pancake breakfast with the Soup Kitchen at Civic Park.
Weekend Update: the return of the Manitou Beach Busking Festival
The summertime bustle of Manitou Beach is set to get under way with the always entertaining line up of events at various beach side locales. A June event that takes advantage of almost all of the resort village’s venues is the annual Manitou Beach Busking Festival.

15U AAA Dodgers work out a 12-7 win over the Sask Five Giants
Kyler Fischer led the way going 3 for 5 at the plate as the East Central AAA 15U Dodgers toppled the Sask Five Giants last night. Fischer doubled in the second, and singled in the first and fourth innings on the way to a 12-7 final in favour of the Dodgers.
Everitt Solar doubled while Jaxson Schleper opened with a single in the first to get the Dodgers' night underway.
City Council approves loan and further storm water study
Humboldt City Council dealt with important decisions around major infrastructure projects at its regular Monday meeting on June 24.
First, Humboldt City Council gave three readings and passed a bylaw that would allow for the City to borrow $12 million from RBC Royal Bank for the construction of the new Wastewater Treatment Facility and upgrades to two lift stations.
2024 SHSAA Merit Award bestowed upon Wynyard’s Trevor Otsig
Wynyard’s Trevor Otsig was recently awarded the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association’s highest honor, the Merit Award, at the SHSAA Annual General Meeting. This award is given by the SHSAA to honor those who have provided outstanding leadership and service and the promotion of high school athletics within their school athletic district and province as a whole.
Cybersecurity incident shuts down some Co-op cardlock fuel locations and other systems
Federated Co-operatives Ltd. has become the latest target of a cybersecurity incident.
In a statement released Thursday evening, the company says it is "experiencing a cybersecurity incident that is impacting some internal and customer facing systems at local retail Co-ops and cardlock fuel locations."
As a precaution, the company says they have shut down some of the systems. The incident is impacting several locations across the prairies.
