Birders invited to take part in global bird watching event this weekend
Birders from around the world will be taking part in a bird watching phenomenon this weekend. The annual Great Backyard Bird Count runs from Friday through Monday.
Matt Gasner is Assistant Conservation Biologist for Nature Conservancy of Canada. He describes the Great Backyard Bird Count as a global community science effort that allows anyone to make a scientific contribution to our understanding of bird populations, migrations and ranges at this time of year.

Car driver escapes with minor injuries, kids OK in collision with bus
RCMP say one person was taken to hospital following a crash involving a school bus Thursday afternoon near Ile des Chenes.
St. Pierre RCMP responded to the crash at approximately 4 pm.
According to police, a bus was driving east, just north of Ile de Chenes, when it crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 59. As it was attempting to turn north onto Highway 59, the bus was hit by a car.
The RCMP says there were nine students onboard the bus, but none of them were seriously injured.

Highway 75 shoulder work could last a couple more months
A stretch of Highway 75 south of Ste. Agathe is down to single lane as the rebuild project enters its ninth month.
In spring of last year, crews began the task of rebuilding the southbound lanes of Highway 75 from Ste. Agathe to Morris. The work involved 27.7 kilometres of surface reconstruction, as well as shoulder, drainage and intersection improvements. The surface was reconstructed using concrete pavement.

The Interim Leader for the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba says they need to do a reset and rebuild to regain the trust of Manitobans.
Lac du Bonnet MLA Wayne Ewasko was elected Interim Leader by the Conservative Caucus on Thursday. He will now serve in that capacity until a leadership vote takes place later this year.
"Having Caucus put their faith in me is an extreme honour," says Ewasko, who has been an MLA since 2011.

Ewasko elected Interim Leader for Manitoba Conservatives
Wayne Ewasko is now the Interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba.
The PC Caucus has elected the Lac du Bonnet MLA to that position. The vote became necessary when Heather Stefanson stepped down from that position earlier this week. Because the Caucus was not immediately available to elect an Interim Leader, Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen served as Opposition Leader as the result of his role as Deputy Leader of the PC Party.
