New rapid access counselling services for youth coming to Humboldt

The Sask Party government announced that free, rapid access counselling service will now be available to children, youth and their caregivers in Humboldt. The province’s Rapid Access Counselling Program is part of Family Service Saskatchewan, backed by $1.7 million in new annual funding. The counselling will be delivered by Partners Family Services in Humboldt. The government release states that young people can access support for challenges ranging from stress and depression to family conflict, addictions and domestic violence.  

Health Authority responds to overcrowding concerns

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has responded to letters of concern about overcrowding in a Saskatoon hospital with a release concerning its Saskatoon Capacity Pressure Action Plan (SCPAP). The release sent out on November 14 outlines several concrete actions to alleviate and address the immediate pressures facing hospital capacity in Saskatoon, while introducing long-term measures to meet the current and future needs of Saskatchewan residents accessing health care services in Saskatoon. 

Local area child care spaces expanding in latest funding announcement

Area child care facilities will be the beneficiaries of the latest funding announcement by the Governments of Saskatchewan and Canada. The additional $23.5 million in funding is designed to create 2,349 new regulated childcare spaces in the provinces. 

Local centres to reap the benefits include Humboldt’s new Prairie Roots Learning Centre with 40 spaces, a new development in Cudworth set for 40 spaces, and expansions in LeRoy of 30 spaces, along with an expansion of an additional 30 set for Lanigan.  

Province embarks on The Saskatchewan Employment Incentive

As part of its throne speech, the Saskatchewan government made promises about the introduction of a Saskatchewan employment incentive to support working families with lower incomes. In a November 8th release, the province began to outline the new program which will provide a financial benefit, supplementary health benefits, connections to employment, and housing supports. 

Government lays groundwork for provincial Marshals Service

The government of Saskatchewan is continuing with its plans to develop a Marshall service to bolster provincial policing. 

The Police (Miscellaneous) Amendment Act, 2023 officially designates the Saskatchewan Marshals Service as a police service in Saskatchewan and sets out details and processes for the service's structure, operation and governance. The Act also creates a chief marshal position, which will be responsible for the administration, management and operation of the service. The legislation was introduced on November 7. 

Remembrance Day Service slated for St. Augustine Church on November 11

Preparations are under way for the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony in Humboldt hosted by the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. The program will be held at St. Augustine Church on Saturday, November 11 at the appointed hour of 11 am.  

Lunch will be held after the service at the Humboldt Legion Hall. Tickets will be sold for a supper time meal, again at the Legion Hall.  

Hospital Home Lottery announces grand and top prize winners.

Saskatoon City, Royal University, and St. Paul’s Hospital Foundations announced the Grand and top prize winners in the Fall 2023 Hospital Home Lottery. 

The Grand Prize winner of the $1.5 million show home went to Jordan Clayton from Weldon. 

The winner of the 50/50 add-on cash prize of $583,925.00 was won by Murray and Linda Beatty from Warman. 

The $10,000 shopping spree went to Ryley Boyes from Saskatoon.

Diane Boyko re-elected board chair

Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) operates St. Dominic and St. Augustine Schools in Humboldt and jointly operates Humboldt Collegiate under an agreement with the Horizon School Division. On November 6, GSCS held its annual organizational meeting where the board selects a chair, vice-chair and trustees to represent the board on a variety of committees. Diane Boyko was re-elected chair of the board. Ron Boechler was reelected vice-chair.
