Harvest progressing with drier weather in the mix
The east central region of the province is playing catchup with this year’s harvest, but relatively dry weather during the week of August 27 to September 2 has done much to move the process along.
The weekly crop report from the Ministry of Agriculture for the week shows that harvest in the region is at 38 per cent completion. All told, harvest was nearing the halfway point in the week with 42 percent in the bin province wide. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 34 per cent.

New school year - renewed speed zones
Just a reminder to motorists that a new school year means that school zone speed zones in Humboldt shift.
Speed limits in school zones shift to 30 km per hour during designated hours starting today. Traffic along Highways 5 and 20, and in designated areas, must slow to 30 km per hour from 8:00 am to 5 pm on school days.
Young children in elementary schools are returning to school or are attending for the first time. Motorists are asked to take extra caution in these areas, particularly during the fall school start up season.

More doctors begin practice in rural Saskatchewan through SIPPA program
Rural Saskatchewan medical practices, including those in east central Saskatchewan continue to see doctors take up residence. Physicians who have completed the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) continue to fill vacancies in rural communities.
In Rosthern, Dr. Janet Adel Fouad Abdelmalek will take up practice, and in Wynyard, Dr. Fatemeh Askarian will serve area patients.
Harvest hampered by regional rainfall
Isolated showers continue to put harvest into a holding pattern in East Central Saskatchewan. However, in its weekly crop report, the Ministry of Agriculture notes that farmers have made good progress over the past week with 25 per cent of the crop now harvested, ahead of the five-year average of 21 per cent.
Unfortunately, from August 20th to August 26th, some areas were subject to strong winds and heavy hail. The forecast looks more promising for harvest progress with a string of warm and sunny days in store.
