The Hold and Secure procedure has been lifted for Niverville’s elementary school, middle school, and high school. It has also been lifted at Ecole Heritage Immersion in St. Pierre, and at École Communautaire Réal-Bérard.

The Hanover School Division (HSD) issued an update on their website, stating that RCMP have advised them that it is safe to lift the security procedures.

HSD is thanking students, staff and parents for their cooperation and understanding.

“The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance, and we are grateful to the RCMP for their assistance in ensuring our schools are safe for all.”

Parents of Niverville students are being informed of the plan for the school day after an officer-involved shooting that happened in the early morning hours.

The Hanover School Division has placed all Niverville Schools in a Hold and Secure.

statement has been published on the division’s website.

“We are aware of the situation and have communicated with the local RCMP. In an abundance of caution, all Niverville schools are currently in a Hold and Secure. Students in NHS, NMS, and NES will remain inside their schools today, including recess and lunch. Parents may choose to pick up their children for lunch or drop off a lunch, or the schools will ensure children are provided with food.”

Meanwhile, if parents have questions, they are advised to contact the school principal.

The Hanover School Division plans to provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.

Hold and Secure is used when it is necessary to secure a school because there is an emergency situation occurring outside the school. Classes may continue to function normally. The exterior doors are locked and monitored to allow students and staff to enter, but otherwise remain locked. Once inside, no one leaves the building. An active police incident in a neighborhood would trigger a Hold and Secure. - Hanover School Division website
