Donations of cereal and cake mix have been flowing into the food bank in Steinbach.
This follows a call for help which was issued two weeks ago by South East Helping Hands.
“We did see quite a wonderful response,” says Ashley Garand.
It looks like there’s enough cereal for one hamper day, she notes, which sees 450 hampers get picked up by families and individuals who need some extra help these days.
Garand hopes people will remember the food bank throughout the summer and make donations of cereal whenever they are able to.
The food bank had also asked for cake mix because it allows families to bake a dessert for special occasions.
Ken Dyck says everyone deserves to have a treat, especially for birthdays.
South East Helping Hands is also looking for donations of baby formula and diapers to help support families with young children.
Donation bins are set up at grocery stores in Steinbach.
