The City of Grande Prairie is reminding residents of ways to stay safe in the heat due to forecasted elevated temperatures this week.

“We encourage residents to be aware of the heat and take precautions to avoid heat-related illness,” said Communications Director, Philip Cooper. “Take indoor breaks away from the sun, wear SPF 30 or higher and drink plenty of water to keep yourself safe during higher temperatures. City facilities are available during operational hours for residents to visit and cool off.”

There are several City-owned facilities available for public use throughout the week, including:

·Ernie Radbourne Pavilion.

·Grande Prairie Museum.

·Eastlink Centre.

·Design Works Centre.

·Activity and Reception Centre.

·Montrose Cultural Centre.

·Aquatera Outdoor Pool.

Splash pads located at Lions and Muskoseepi Park are also open for extended hours of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until further notice.

Staying hydrated, keeping to the shade and taking breaks from outdoor activities can help reduce the risk of heatstroke or other heat-related illnesses. Alberta Health Services (AHS) has additional heat-warning information available on its website here.
