The thunderstorm stayed away for the afternoon, and it turned out to be the perfect lake day.

Many families joined in on some fun at Buffalo Point’s annual Buffalo Days celebration that goes on all weekend long.

Lee Green and Debbie Sexmith presented the idea of Buffalo Days to the Chief and Council nine years ago and now it is a well-known family fun day amount the Buffalo community.

Sexmith explains why they decided to start Buffalo Days.

“It’s an opportunity to build community, to bring people together, and just to have fun, and for people to meet their neighbor.”

The event continues to grow, and Green says they are up to around 70 volunteers this year.

“In nine years, we went from having just three of us running it to now having a whole host of volunteers and people coming from the surrounding areas, so it’s been successful and a good run,” Sexmith says.

She continues, “Every event was a little bit smaller, but with each it’s been the same sort of bones, and we’ve added a few different events each year as we’ve gotten more people on board, more volunteers, word gets out. Each year it’s built upon itself and just gotten better and better.”

She says that the community marks their calendars every year because they don’t want to miss this event.

“People in our campground make sure their families and their grandkids come out for the weekend.”

Today was filled with lots of family fun and activities including bouncy castles, games, a petting zoo, face painting, barrel rides, and more.

Sexmith gives a big thank you to the wonderful Buffalo Point community who makes the event possible.

“It’s really only been possible with the community all coming on board and the volunteers, it makes all the difference.”

She says they are already looking forward to next year!

“Next year marks our 10th anniversary, so look out for big things next year.”
