A brief update was given on the investigation surrounding a shooting that happened in Wheatland County on August 6.

Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz with the Strathmore RCMP said that police will be giving daily updates to keep the public informed about the investigation, which led to the death of Rocky View County employee Colin Hough, and the injury of a FortisAlberta employee.

"We understand that Albertans are nervous when there is a known dangerous offender who is actively evading capture," said Wielgosz. "We are also aware that any communication that we provide to the public about his whereabouts may also be communicated to him, potentially hindering our efforts and presenting an additional safety risk to the public and police."

Despite this, Wielgosz added that they believe 28-year-old Elijah Strawberry remains in Alberta and is armed and dangerous. Police continue to follow up on tips to ensure Strawberry's capture.

Knowing that Strawberry may be following police reports, Wielgosz urged the suspect to turn himself in.

"If Mr. Strawberry is watching, or anyone known to him, do the right thing and turn yourself in," added Wielgosz. "I can say that with the dedication and efforts of our investigative teams, you will be found. We want to see a peaceful resolution to this portion of the investigation."

According to police, the fatal shooting happened on August 6 during a carjacking. Strawberry's accomplice in the shooting, Wayne Penner, was arrested over the weekend.
