Canadian customers can now watch 'A Cowboy Christmas' which was filmed in Maple Creek.
The movie is airing on Tubi, a free streaming service.
Maple Creek Mayor and movie actress, Michelle McKenzie, has already watched the movie again on Tubi, excited to see herself and her community in the production.
"It was phenomenal to be able to watch and to showcase my community," said McKenzie. "It's absolutely great that it is available in Canada. I hope everybody has a chance to watch it and also to then come down to Maple Creek and experience our wonderful streetscape."
One of the key points that is a boon for the Town of Maple Creek is that the film production not only filmed in Maple Creek but kept the name of the town the same in the film. Now when people watch A Cowboy Christmas and see the western backdrop of Maple Creek, they can book themselves a visit to the community.
"Whether it's just coming to get a gift or you're looking for a lifetime partner (like in the movie)," said McKenzie.
One of the things that really left an impact from the time of filming was all the lights that were strung up in Maple Creek. The downtown glittered and sparkled with Christmas cheer in the movie so brightly, that the residents have asked McKenzie if it would be possible to do the lights up every Christmas.
"There are some rules and regulations with that, so we're still looking into whether we're able to have the movie lighting to be able to reenact that and have that up all the time during the Christmas season," said McKenzie.
McKenzie hasn't had a report yet on whether the movie has made an impact on local tourism, but she is hopeful that those numbers may be available later this week.
For now, the locals from Maple Creek and southwest Saskatchewan who managed to appear either as named characters or background cast can celebrate the Canadian release, and enjoy A Cowboy Christmas at home this Christmas season.
