2024 and 2025 marked the 150th anniversaries of Mennonite communities in Manitoba and in this season of Still Speaking, host Conrad Stoesz from the Mennonite Heritage Archives is sharing true historical stories around this theme.
"Moving a family in 1874 across an ocean is a monumental task. All the preparations that needed to be done; selling a property, saying all the good byes, deciding what to do with the treasured items that can't be sold but can't be brought along, getting the best clothes ready for the journey, preparing tools, food, travel, documents, seeds and finances. But for many children, the trip was a great adventure, new sights, new smells, new friends...of course do not comprehend what could go wrong or what lay ahead."
